Secret Santa was fun....but....

So as I said in my previous Discussion, I am now on holidays from my childcare course. YAY!
Today we still did do some work but around lunch time we packed everything up and had a small Christmas party. Everyone brought in some food to share with one another. It was a nice day.
And for the very first time ever, I have finally been apart of Secret Santa. (for those who don't know what that is, it's where everyone gets given a name, you go and buy a present for that person, and on the day, the presents are handed out but none of them say who the presents were from).
I bought a box of chocolates and 3 different coloured nail polishes for a girl in my class. When everyone was opening their presents, I was being very sneaky watching her open it as I was hoping she liked it. When she opened it I heard her say "wow! Yes! I love chocolates. And such beautiful colours!" I was very happy.
I opened my present (as you can see in the photo), I was given a box of wine glasses and some chocolates. And what you see on the left side of the photo is a coconut & lime scented candle and some cookies. Those were from my teacher. She gave these out to all of us as her Christmas gifts. My teacher said "These cookies were made using my late Grandmother's recipe." Everyone said "Aww!" It was very sweet.
So yeah Secret Santa is fun but....the thing that is hard is not knowing who bought me my gifts so I cannot go thank them. The whole idea is fun and mysterious but I was bummed I couldn't just go thank the person.
It was a great day and ending before our holidays started. Thank you for reading this Discussion. I am going to go lay down. I'm very tired. Hope everyone is well and wishing everyone a good day / night.

@DocAndersen That is a good way to get your "thank you's" out. A couple did shout out "Thank you!" But a lot of us were to shy to do that, myself included.

We do a Secret Santa but during the day of the gift-giving, people get to reveal who they gave gifts to. Everyone knows who their Secret Santa is.

@allen0187 That is so cool. I would have really preferred it that way instead of the way we did it.

@VivaLaDani13 first time I've heard of a Secret Santa that didn't have a reveal in the end.

@allen0187 And this is the very first time I've learned that another version is to reveal themselves.
Too funny!

@vandana7 Yes but this was our last class for this year. We won't be back until the 12th of January when Christmas is all over.

You didn't tell each other afterward who each person's Secret Santa was? At all the ones I've participated in, we had to try and guess, and at the end of the party we all revealed whose name we had.

@VivaLaDani13 You should introduce that version next year!
Have you ever done a "white elephant" gift exchange?

@moffittjc I won't be there then. Which is a bit sad. I hate when things I enjoy end. We finish around April I think.
I haven't heard of that one. How does that work?

@moffittjc I wish we did it the way you have experienced. We didn't reveal anything at all.

@Treborika Thank you so much and yeah, I wished I could have known who it was but that's the point I guess. All secretive.

@jaboUK That is fair enough. It can be done with family too. My Aunty did try to pull one off a few years ago but it was a flop. More than half of us didn't want to do that as we preferred buying something personally for someone and giving it to them personally. But just like usual, my Aunty did it anyway and the whole point of it wasn't run like a Secret Santa would. My Aunty bought it all and handed them out so it wasn't exactly a secret.

I've been part of Secret Santa before. It is a lot of fun. I'm sorry you didn't know who your gift is from. That's one thing I always found out when the gifts were opened. I'm glad the person you bought for liked her gift and you like yours.

@just4him It was still fun and happy to have finally experienced the game. I can only guess there are a few ways to play this as you're another person who has said at the end you can reveal who the gift giver was. I much prefer it that way but was still fun.

I know what you're saying but whoever bought for you would be watching your reaction (just as you watched your recipient) so you just have to be thrilled (or even pretend) with your gift and they are sure to notice and be pleased. That's my take on it anyway.

@JudyEv lol I know what you mean. I was happy with what I got and gave a huge smile so I hope that the person who bought me those gifts were happy with themselves.
