Get The Stimulus Done Now!

Most of the time I do not fully support stimulus packages. Part of my reasoning for this is that it really does nothing to push the needle forward for anyone. It's just a small, short term boost that never gets at the root of what has caused the stimulus to be felt to be necessary in the first place. There are usually better ideas to stimulate the economy. A stimulus check is most often just a very tiny band aid on a very much bigger wound. But THIS stimulus is different. And I strongly support President Trump's urging of Congress to offer the American people checks for $2000 as opposed to the $600 that was passed. Part of it is this. The American people did not ASK for this situation. It was not the decision of the businesses to close, leaving millions of Americans out of work. So, if it is the government which is largely responsible for forcing Americans into this mess through their decisions, then it is the responsibility of the government to provide recompense for the decisions they made. Granted. It is true that none of this money is truly free. Taxpayers will have to foot the bill at some point in the future. BUT, the point is that this relief is needed NOW. The real solution is to open businesses back up and allow the economy to heal itself on its own through natural processes, But that's another discussion, and I want to stay on point. I applaud the president in his aim to push for more for the American people. I applaud the president as well for telling us what was IN this bill, stuff that had nothing to do with Covid, and nothing to do with helping the American people. I also applaud Pelosi and AOC and Sanders for their vocal support of the president's proposal. Shame on the minority leader in Congress on the republican side who broke unanimous consent and killed the possibility of $2000 checks. Even $2000 will not do much to REALLY help anyone. But at least it shows SOME effort, and I think we should go forward with it. Yes. A lot of people will get this money that do not need it. Not my concern. As many have messaged throughout this Coronavirus thing, "We are all in this together." Our impacts from the decisions to close things down might not be the same, but we have all experienced one hardship or another throughout it... So, pony up GOP. Pony up government. You owe it to the American people!

Oh, don't even get me started on comprehensive bill writing which puts so much into bills that has nothing to do with aim of the bills. Yes. Very frustrating.

@CarolDM If I were Trump, I would veto the darn thing despite the negatives to doing that, and tell Congress to do their jobs and quit playing with the livelihoods of the American people. Put the onus on them. I think the American people will not view Trump negatively on this, even the lefties, because everyone mostly agrees the $600 isn't enough.

Too bad we never really get a straight deal but always have the extra pork. I would find either one of the stimulus bills to be helpful, but of course prefer a larger one.

In light of the situation we are in, I too support a larger measure. But yes. Jeepers. Just leave the damn pork OUT of it. This money should be going to small business owners, unemployed people, and the American people. The rest of it is just a waste of time and money. I am perturbed at my own party as well for blocking the unanimous consent vote on the $2000 payment. Shame on them.

NO. I say no based on the fact that they did not remove the pork. This should be a one page bill for Americans, period. Like you said, the money I know is sorely needed by some but not at any cost. Those pet projects are just fronts/shells for the 'dirty' ones to line their pockets and portfolios. Give that money to the people or do nothing. AND OPEN UP THE DAMN COUNTRY!

Right now it is really semantics playing out here because the bill, as it stands now, can still be passed EVEN IF Trump decides to veto it, because the Senate has pretty much said they have the 2/3rds vote required to override the veto. So, the bill WILL get passed as it stands, I think, and people will at least get their $600. The issue now is the call from our president to increase the payment to $2000, which the Congress tried to pass by unanimous consent, which was blocked by the House minority leader on the republican side.

$2,000 will at least help some people that are in such dire straits right now. $600 isn't even a Band-Aid. And, yes, get rid of the extraneous crap on the bill.

You do what you want to do and impose it for the American people when you become a President. Let's see if you can impose your political will.
