Before and after photos of the cabinet

Christmas is over for another year. I’m sure it was a very different time for many of us. I do hope you were able to be in contact with family and friends. We had a quiet but very enjoyable day, although the temperature was up around 37C (about 100F). We stayed inside and ran the air-conditioning all day so were quite comfortable. Our guests are staying for a few days which will be nice. I wrote some time back about sanding and varnishing a little bedside cabinet for Vince’s sister. The cabinet was to be a Christmas gift for her husband – somewhere to put his book, glasses and cup of water, etc. The cabinet came up very nicely and is a nice honey-colour now. Unfortunately, you can’t see much difference in the above photo so you’ll just have to believe me that it looks much better. If you’re wondering how we wrapped it, that will be revealed in the next post.

It was a relief to see the pleasure on his face - and that of his wife after she entrusted it to us.

He did a really good job on it. You had hot weather, it is currently -7C here, its snowing and blowing. We're getting our first real winter storm of the season, thank goodness for Boxing Day and being able to stay home yet another day.

@JudyEv Yes you would, you handle it the same way you handle 37 degree days-inside.

@JudyEv In olden days this wood polish was done by a piece of cloth. It used to be a very specialised job including preparation of polish. Now a days it is available ready made and can be brushed or sprayed.

Vince used a spray polish so there are no brush marks. You just have to be careful not to use so much that it 'runs'.

I see a difference, the bottom one looks blonder than the top one, I really like it. I hope you had a wonderful Christmas.

I like the blond woods better for the small homes @JudyEv it gives a room the feeling it's bigger than it actually is.

Yes, once it was sanded it was more honey-coloured. I like blond woods, not that it's for me, but I like it anyway.

@judyev Excellent job. But how can you be bothered with anything in 37 degree heat? We’re hovering around 6 degrees.

It wasn't 37C when we were doing the work. It's too hot to varnish at that temperature, so Vince says - or maybe he just wanted to get out of doing it. lol Six degrees sounds pretty cold.

The cabinet turned out very well. I'm glad you had a good Christmas. It was 100 degrees there and around 20 degrees F here with tons and tons of snow. We got about a foot with some higher drifts. Blechhh!

We had to come up with something creative. I didn't want to use rolls of Christmas paper. It was too big.
