Anarchy in the U.S. Capital

I want to apologize to the world. I am horrified and embarrassed for our country. Right now, I am watching Trump supporters break into the U.S. Capital building. They have broken down doors, broken out windows, and they are roaming the halls of the Congressional buildings, looking for members of Congress and reporters. It is so, so scary for the people who are hiding in the building. At least one pipe bomb was detonated inside the Capital by one of the Trump supporters. A lot of property has been damaged. I cannot believe that thousands of lawless Trump supporters would take this action, but Trump gave a speech to them this morning and told his followers to march to the Capital building. They did as he asked, and now we have this violent insurrection. After 3 hours, Trump has flat-out refused to ask the rioters to stop. He will not accept phone calls from his allies. He has refused requests to appear on TV and ask the protestors to leave. The National Guard has been called in. Tear gas is being used. At least one woman has been shot. It is absolutely horrible. It is illegal to incite a riot in our country. Trump should be arrested, and his cabinet and the Vice President should invoke the 25th Amendment and force Trump to step aside! Again, I apologize to the world that we have such a lawless President. Most of us have been doing what we can to legally get rid of him. The inauguration is in two weeks, if our government can survive that long.

This is absolutely terrible news. We've been hearing about it. How can a country survive and/or prosper when folks won't obey the laws of the country. It's very sad - and quite frightening.

@JudyEv - I was terrified. I have a dear friend who is a U.S. Representative and she was not able to send out a message that she was OK for several hours. Then, we heard that an unidentified woman had been shot and killed. I was terrified for my friend. I simply cannot forgive the Republicans I know who have continued to support Trump over the years. I think they are complicit.

What about all the violence done last summer by Antifa and Black Lives Matter supported by the Democrats? Shouldn't they be arrested and classified as domestic terrorists? We as a nation should be apologizing for their horrible actions too. They destroyed businesses, hurt people's livlihoods.

@LeaPea2417 - Yes, and many of the members of Antifa and Black Lives Matter who damaged and looted WERE ARRESTED, or did you not pay attention to that? I PERSONALLY HOLD RESPONSIBLE EVERY SINGLE PERSON WHO VOTED FOR TRUMP IN THIS LAST ELECTION. YOU KNEW HE WAS A SNAKE AND YOU VOTED FOR HIM ANYWAY. YOU ARE COMPLICIT IN YESTERDAY'S BLOODSHED, AS SURELY AS IF YOU HAD BUILT THOSE PIPE BOMBS OR CARRIED THOSE RIFLES YOURSELF.

I am saddened and more than embarrassed knowing that the idiot wearing a fur hat with horns is of Italian origins. I have heard the ex president inciting his fans for days and what happened is exactly what my husband and I thought it would have happened. I know that your country will stand up and fight for freedom and democracy, the dark age should be soon over.

@LadyDuck - This dark stain on America's legacy will always be here, brought to us by the unAmerican, unChristian, uncivilized Republican Party of today. This is NOT the "Grand Old Party" it once was. It is the party who no longer believes in the Constitution, the law, or caring for the people of this country.

So sad to see this happening to America. You have been the bastion for democracy for many years but this time it seems it does not look that way anymore. I just hope that peace and order will be restored soon and the President will step down because of what happened. Violence is not an acceptable move to remain in in power.

@rsa101 - I read that Trump and Pence have not spoken to each other since the mob broke into the Capitol building while Mike Pence's family was inside with him. I am sure he was worried about them. Pence is furious with Trump, according to some of the Senators who were with him on Wednesday. Trump is going to Camp David, now. He needs to be removed from power, but that will not happen. I am disgusted.

It was horrific but I think we will find after proper investigation that agitators who have been to all the riots this past year were here too. This is anarchists who hate our government. We need to change the mindset that thinks ‘any rioting is acceptable There is. No easy answer and in this country our right to support any candidates from any party without being attacked. Has been trampled on. I am a republicans by ideaolgy not a Trump republicans but for 4 years I have been afraid to say that for fear of being attacked. It’s crazy, I don’t hate Democrats I just believe in smaller government. This country is in a bad way. But you and I can be civil because we realize at the end of the day we are Americans.

@BelleStarr - I voted for many more Republicans in my life than Democrats, including both Nixon and Reagan, but NEVER AGAIN. I do not want to be affiliated with any Republican ever again. They are NOT the party they once were. They absolutely appall me now. I do not want to be connected in any way with neo-Nazis, white supremacists, conspiracy theorists or Trump. I will not live long enough to ever trust a Republican again.

After viewing recaps from the events of yesterday, I must say that I am still in disbelief. I knew that things were bad, just being on this site and reading things from American members, but I had no idea that the numbers were as large as the crowds shown yesterday were. I sincerely hope that the majority of Americans get behind the new president and commit to work with him every single day to bring your country back to being a safe nation. They showed press reporters with tears rolling down their faces covering this story, I cannot imagine how they felt.

I am glad to hear some corporations are saying they plan to withhold donations to the Republican party. They deserve that. Though an outsider I have been following US elections from Kennedy days. Many elections were close but never resulted in utter anarchy like now. The US was looked upon as the bastion of democracy and freedom and this outcome is beyond belief. It has been like a third world country. I do hope this situation is history soon and we are back to halcyon days of decency that western democracies are famous for. I can understand your angst.

@Shiva49 I think that all those institutions based in US who were preaching democracy and Human rights to other countries should be made to work within US and rectify situation there. Some memes and joke were circulating in social media a few months back which said that now elections in some of the earlier turbulent Indian states are much more peaceful than those in US. What a turn of events!
