Mini-Buses Are Roaming Around The City

Since we had our lockdown, mini-buses are starting to roam around the city. They are air-conditioned type vehicles and passengers are 1-meter apart. It seems that they are going to replace the traditional jeepneys. Up to this date, I never tried to ride on any types of vehicles in my city. I prefer to hike to the town proper and vice-versa. Any new things can be seen at your place? Do you think these mini-buses are practical to have?

I prefer my car, it would be too far for me to hike anywhere since the nearest store where I could buy food is 8 miles up hill and the bank is 12 miles more or less uphill.

Oh, my. I think you really need to ride in a car when you go to the nearest store. If it is too far for me to travel, I might as well ride on a taxi here. In my humble opinion, it is the safest vehicle that I can ride than jeepneys or mini-buses.

In my city, this is the first time that we had mini-buses. I find it weird since my city is not that big enough to accommodate new vehicles like this. Perhaps it is a sign of being progressive. It was just my thought about it.

@KityCat Honestly, we really don't have mini buses here. However, we have buses that can bring people to other provinces or cities.

Yes here in Manila there are also vehicles like that that are roaming around already since last year. They will replace the dilapidated Jeepney although many drivers are protesting against it.

@Shavkat They will be replaced soon. I think their franchise will just not be renewed anymore so they cannot ply the roads anymore.

I am sure that PUJ drivers will be protesting if it happens to replace jeepneys in the city. I had seen mini-buses in Manila. Although it happens the old ones that I had ridden on before.

I shared this because this is the first time we had them. My city is not that huge to have these mini-buses. It is just my opinion

@LadyDuck It is like my city, but we got used to riding jeepneys or taxis. Having these mini-buses will be a good replacement for jeepneys.

We don't have tricycles here. But I like riding on them if being in the province. Can I ask where is your place here in our country? I got intrigued.

I think I saw a similar bus here. But I don't ride any public transportation since July. I am using my own car to travel to and from my office.

@Shavkat I just learned how to drive last July and I am careful. I bought an old car and I love it. This car has been very helpful to me and my family.

@ARIES1973 I do agree with you. It is not our priority to have a car yet. We are still planning to build a new house. Who knows? We might change our minds because it can be useful, too.

Before the pandemic, our cousin crashed our car. So we don't have it anymore. It is hopeless to fix it. Sometimes I ride on my younger brother's motorbike. It is better to have a private car when traveling especially now.

@Shavkat There hasn't been anything like this where I live. Only thing different that took place regarding Covid and public transport, was new signs being put in place to tell people to sit away from each other. I think if it works in keeping people safe, then that's good.

It is also the same thing here. We do have new signages that you mentioned. These mini-buses are available in different places in my city. It seems that they are embracing the new public transportation.

@VivaLaDani13 Personally, I am not confident to be riding on these mini-buses. They are enclosed and I cannot be sure if the coronavirus is lurking around the vehicles.

@Shavkat Even before the corona I hardly rode a bus so cannot tell you if they are good or not. I try to stay inside as much as I can so unless I read about it online do not know what is new. We are in lockdown and going into another one tomorrow.

I am not being paranoid but it is better to walk for me. I just want to be in the open air than being enclosed in a vehicle like this.

I can relate to that situation. At some point, I am missing working in Manila, which was my planned finding a job here before the pandemic. Now, it needs to be delayed.

No new things seen around here, but I like that mini bus compare to jeepney, That would be convenient for passengers, with distance, unlike jeepney. So you are living in Baguio?

It's not safe to ride the jeepneys? I am not really comfortable being in closed space with strangers during this pandemic. I'll try to avoid it as much as I could.

@Shavkat Walking is always better. The vans are good, but it's the driver you have to be wary of as well as other drivers.

@Shavkat We had it a few years ago, they are very practical because they are fast and in the summer they have air conditioning, the ticket was of course 3x more expensive, I used them when I needed to. But I haven't seen them in years ... really where did they go ?!

I heard that the fare was doubled in using these mini-buses. It seems that they are convenient for some since it is not crowded for the passengers. The seating arrangement followed the protocol to have 1 meter apart.

@Shavkat They were not withdrawn at the time of the pandemic, but several years ago.. that they still exist here, that they would probably be abolished because it is cramped
