Yesterday's events in Washington DC

First off, the picture is not DC, rather the turtle of change (he moves really slow). Yesterday there was an event in Washington DC that was extremely disjointing. First, I have been to other countries when things like that happened. I was always carefully taken to a safe place.
I live near DC. I know people in the Captial and Washington DC Metro police Departments.
i was in no danger, the event happened 20 miles away from me. But the repercussions are global.
I wish yesterday had not happened in Washington DC (if you don't know what I mean, look up riots, Washington DC Janurary 6th 2021).

Even as a Trump supporter, and I still am, I did not like these events either. This is not MY America, and these acts were not American in my opinion. I am not completely on board with some of the fringe people saying these were not Trump supporters. But I think some of them may not have been. These were paid protestors a good many of them, I think.

sadly some of them video taped what they were doing, and are long time known trump supporters. But yes I do agree there were professional agitators in that crowd.

It seemed to me that it had a lot of the hallmarks of a fringe far-right group taking advantage of a wave of real supporters who, perhaps originally, had no intention of invading the Capitol. I don't know whether the agitators or whatever you like to call them were paid or not but I did see a report that many of the ones arrested were recognised as members of QAnon and other extreme groups.

@DocAndersen I still think even among those who ARE Trump supporters, these are people on the fringe. And both sides have them. They are not in any way representative of republicans, and not in any way representative of Trump supporters.

Come on Scott, we live in a democracy where the Constitution guarantees our right to act like idiots! lol
Seriously though, I know this is no laughing matter. Many of the other countries of the world--although they sometimes don't like us--still look to us as the global ensurer of peace and good. And now they sit in horror watching our country digress right in front of them.
I hope we can come to our senses and regroup and rebuild as a stronger nation. This was a serious challenge to our democracy and our institutions, and although right now it looks like we survived the scare, it was a huge wake up call for us. May we find a way to come together and become the shining example again for the world.

It's a sad day when other countries comment on what is going on in the U.S. It's been that way throughout Trump's administration. Foreigners are watching; and they don't like what they see.

It came as a morning shock to us. The news channels have been playing it throughout day. Definitely a shame for oldest and strongest democracy.

@DocAndersen I have stayed in US for around 10 years and was there during 9/11 event too. I strongly feel for that country. I love US for the people who make that country. This was a true shock for me.

@arunima25 yes I know that feeling. I spent much time in India and asia when i was young, and during my early work career. I always feel bad when I hear about things like this in other countries.

People say Mitch McConnell looks like a turtle....
We survived much worse, and we’ll survive this. I hope and pray.
