I had to bake this cake as its aroma while baking with carols in the background did get me slightly in the Christmas mood. This time I remembered to add more dates and the cake turned out deliciously moist.
What special item/s did you make for Christmas?

Date and walnut cake is one of my favourites. Coffee and walnut is the other. I was going to make a Stollen (a sweet yeast bread with dried fruit and mixed candied peel and with a log of marzipan running through the middle) but I didn't get round to it and, instead, my wife made a more traditional (for England) Christmas cake to a very easy recipe. It never got as far as being covered in marzipan and icing, which was a pity, and became a "New Year" cake!
Christmas just wouldn't be Christmas without a fruit cake! This is a simple, dense, rich and fruity cake that's easy to make. It makes the perfect food gift.

Someone brought us a fruit cake. It was delicious. It had all the exotic dry fruits - figs, sultanas, dates, raisins, candied peel, ............I have never tried a cake with coffee. You guys are famous for your Christmas pudding though elaborate.
Thank you for the recipe

@allknowing Coffee and walnut cake is really just a standard plain cake mix flavoured with (strong) coffee and with a coffee flavoured butter icing or cream filling. The walnuts can either be chopped and incorporated in the cake mix or can be used as decoration on the top, as they usually are, either way.

@JudyEv @allknowing I love a good trifle! Unfortunately none of my family like it - can you believe that? The only person who does is my partner's father, so next time we are allowed to get together we can have a trifle-fest!!

There was no special item during Christmas. We just had the usual celebration
