Last night I finally got to a store and got more ink and paper for my computer. I am busy downloading Durable Power of Attorney forms, for my son and will do for Bob and I.
Sure cannot afford to run out of ink for those things.
Any time we have a major medical thing we get asked if we have written our "final directives", well when this week is over we will have them all done up.
Except we will want to see a lawyer to draw up a trust for our "estate" ha ha. I will put the property in trust for my son, but not until after his divorce, which is not even in the works.
If it was in trust for him now, she would try to sell it.
Got some sad stuff going on.
Do you have a will, a trust, a health care proxy or a durable power of attorney?

This is stuff that hubs and I should have done long ago. We will put our property in trust for the kids, but I will not do that until son is divorced.

I wrote up a holographic will years ago. It's probably out of sync with my wishes now. I should find it and do another one.

It is good to get it done and update periodically.

That would be frustrating. Just like all the time the internet is going down.

Yes, our wills are in order and here, the other is called an Enduring Power of Attorney. It pays to have these things in order. In not, it can be an absolute nightmare for those left behind. I'm sorry to hear about your son's troubles. That's very sad.

Enduring Power of Attorney sounds like the same as Durable Power of Attorney.

@GardenGerty Yes, I'd say they're very much the same.

We have a will as well as a POA drawn up by a lawyer.
By his advise, and because of the way the laws currently are, as our investments mature, we add our son as beneficiary along with 1 of us, that way it will not go to the estate. When dealing with an estate there are fees that the government takes. He knows enough to have an estate sale and sell what he doesn't want material-wise.
Our POA for final care is all spelt out, and we have discussed it as a family to great length. I do not want any mistakes to be made when it comes to that.
Yesterday I started a little book to record our logins and passwords for each other. The survivor will need to pass it down to our son eventually.
Our son is actually considering putting 1 of our names on their deed, just in case he passes, as he doesn't want anything going to his estate either.

We will do a trust with the kids on our property. There will not be much, but the property here. I will not do it until my son is divorced, though. She would try to find a way to get money from it.

I do okay with my son, really. He has had a history of bad domestic choices, though. I am doing what I can for him. I now have financial DPOA's for us, and I need hubby to communicate with me about health DPOA. My life will be better when I do not deal with this crazy woman.

You're being smart in tackling this now. I added my son to my property title so when I pass it will automatically be his no question.
On the final directives I filled out a form at he hospital, it's binding across the board and asked for a copy to take home. So the hospital has one and my family have one.

Hubby had dealt with a number of hospitals the last five or six years. We will just keep our copies with us and let them copy it as needed. I think we will be having a trust set up instead of a will.
