Try to Picture a Typical American

A friend sent me this meme in reference to our granddaughters growing up in America. There is no typical American. We are a “melting pot” of races with a rich diversity. Immigrants from across the world interact and blend together. We have faces of all tints, shades, hues, eye colors, and hair shades. The meme shows Jennifer Lopez, Lady Gaga, Jill Biden, Kamala Harris, Amanda Gorman, and Michelle Obama at President Biden’s Inauguration. I’m proud to be an American despite the problems we are having.

Very true although I do find it rather sad that Native Americans are never represented in this melting pot. It's the same here - whenever there's an argument about languages for instance, there's always a debate about whether everyone should speak English or if it's OK to speak Urdu, Polish or whatever. No-one ever remembers Gaelic or Welsh or Cornish (British languages that pre-date English).

The Native Americans are overlooked, unfortunately, but are becoming more and more recognized. Alot more must be done. English is the universal language and Spanish is also spoken by many here. Phone calls and directions for use are written on many products in both languages. Local communities speak their own languages here. I imagine it would be difficult for any country to communicate in a variety of languages.

Me, too. I will NOT denounce my nation because of the temporary occupant of the White House. I’m also comfortable enough with who I am to not have to worry about whether my neighbor is gay or straight or purple or what.

I agree with you that there is no typical American. With all the different shades, tints, hair and eye colors, that makes Americans interesting people to me.

@DianneN For me, humanity is one - the rest follows including faith. There cannot be many creators - we try to see god through our eyes but he is above pettiness.

My idea of a typical American is 'MIXED', most of us are a mixture of many different cultures and races. I too am proud to be an American.
