Just Like That, 2 For $6

Burger King is currently running a special. Mix and match 2 for $5 for your choice of a Whopper, Original Chicken Sandwich, or Big Fish. So, on the way home from a little trip to Walmart the wife and I decided to stop and get something. We decided on 2 of the Original Chicken Sandwiches. Got to the window and I handed her a $20 bill to cover our total of $5.46. She handed us our bag of food through the window in a metal basket. By the way, I get that this is supposed to be a "no touch" transaction, but someone had to touch the bag to fill it, and touch the bag to hand it to the drive through window, and it had to be touched again to put it into the basket. Anywho... When she went to hand me my change, mind you via a small opening of about 12" since the window is mostly covered with a sheet of plexiglass, it forced the girl to maneuver to reach out and up into my truck. As such my coins of 54 cents went clink, clink, clink, spilling onto the ground. I said, "I think all my change is on the ground." She smiled (I could tell by her eyes), said something inaudible (because I could not hear her through the mask and plexiglass), ducked back in and shut the window. And just like that, my 2 for $5 meal became a 2 for $6 meal. I guess I can't count the 46 cents in tax. But still...

@porwest Yes but 54 cents could be used for something else or saved

In there effort to be safe they sometimes make it harder to get done what you need to do. I like the Burger King specials like that. We usually go back and forth between the whopper and the chicken sandwich.

@porwest Isn't the messiness part of the charm?

@HazySue Sometimes it is. They do taste very good all done up. But sometimes I want to be dainty and not get my hands and face messy. lol

Those are my two mainstays there as well. It's either the Whopper or the original chicken sandwich. Although when I get the Whopper I have it made to order since the original one is usually just way too messy and hard to eat.

Look at it this way - it was still a bargain

I guess the only consolation for me was that whoever cleans the drive through, I hope he needs that 54 cents more than I do. lol

Count it as tip. Well they should have handed you another change or demand it. I suppose, it's the attendant's fault and they should take care of the money that landed on the ground instead of you.

Yeah. It was a tip all right. Tipped her hand and dropped my damn change on the ground.

Burger King stores are offering plant-based Whooper burgers here in Manila. Haven't tasted it but plant-based? Seriously?

Yeah. They have been doing that for a long time here. Many restaurants are following suit as well. I have actually had the Impossible Whopper, and I have to admit I really can't tell the difference between it and the meat one. BUT, if I am going for a greasy hamburger, I want the real thing.

@porwest exactly! If it is a burger, it definitely has to be meat.

I don't think I've ever been through a drive thru window where change wasn't spilled on the ground under the pay window. I think I even saw a whole dollar on the ground by Mcdonald's once.

It happens a lot, and it sometimes amazes me how little people care. I mean, money is money and I don't want to just leave it on the ground, I don't care how little of an amount it happens to be. For me, every penny matters.

You could have gotten out of the car and picked the change up. I'd have done just that. Let the people behind me wait. Unless the change went underneath the car. In that case it would be hard to do.

@lovebuglena In change? Probably somewhere around at least $3 or $4. There was a lot of change on the ground.

Hell, based on what I saw on the ground had I actually done that I would have likely walked away with free food. There was a ton of change on the ground. lol

Regardless of the 14 cars, I would have picked up my change and the other change as well. I'm so tight I squeak.

That is a good deal... I got in on that a few times too. I know... same with gloves, people feel safer if the workers are wearing gloves, but I would counter that the gloves are only as clean as the stuff they touch while wearing them.....

It is a conundrum for sure. I think throughout this whole thing all we have really done is do things that make us feel good but haven't done much else.
