The good thing is I don’t “have to try to top” yesterday. I can’t, in the first place; plus, today’s a new day with new adventures, not a replication of yesterday. So I’ll be leaving the hotel soon, and no I don’t know where to. I always like to be surprised on my vacations.
Speaking of surprises, here’s a song with “heart” in the title that you probably didn’t expect from me.
Put a Little Love in Your Heart - Jackie DeShannon
You may remember (or know of) Jackie DeShannon from her two “brotherhood” anthems of the 60s: this one, and “What the World Needs Now Is Love.” Although they probably bought her a house or two, she’s living very comfortably thanks to another song that she wrote back in the early 70s: “Bette Davis Eyes.”
That’s right, the Kim Carnes classic, which was the #1 song of the year of 1981, was written by and originally recorded by DeShannon!
But that’s chronicled in the covers countdowns somewhere. Here we have one of those “feel good,” “let’s have peace” anthems that were quite popular (and rather ubiquitous) in the era of the Vietnam War and the protests and riots in America.
Maybe that’s what we’re missing today: a few more songs like this.
PS: Jackie DeShannon was born in Kentucky! Something for us to be proud of.

Nice, do not know where I am going next but I smell freedom in that post. Song is cool too, but hard to put love into a heart that is all black.

That’s true. Borrowing from another song I used in the countdown, you can’t put a little love in hearts of stone.

Someone who opened for the Beatles is all-right in my book and easy on the eyes too, lol. A prolific songwriter for sure as her induction attests too.
