Will the Groundhog see his Shadow Tomorrow?

I can't remember if we will have warm weather if he sees his shadow or not. That part never works right anyway. I am thinking about the poor groundhog. People wake him up early in the morning and yank him out of his warm hole into the cold air. All he wants to do is go back to sleep and he hopes we will wake him up at a quarter to April. He does not care about us or the number of weeks of winter left. I don't blame him. I don't want to get up when it is cold either. What do you think? Will we have an early spring or a couple more months of winter? How would you feel if they did that to you?

I was trying to decide what the groundhog might say too. I think we will see more winter because of that polar vortex a coming. I want snow though so that doesn't bother me. I am a grumpy lady when I am woken up so I would not be best pleased.

@ScribbledAdNauseum That is not good news. I can not stand the cold very much. I like it warm. That is why I moved here.

Another polar vortex? When is that supposed to happen? It is not what I was hoping for. I hate when something wakes me up when I wasn't done sleeping yet.

Winter is ending early if the groundhog doesn't see his shadow... This is rather silly. The thinking is that the ground is already warm enough to wake the groundhog from hibernation. If the ground is that warm in February, then snow/ice is melting and putting moisture into the air, creating clouds, so no sun. If it's cold out, Pretty has a hard time getting me out of bed!

@akalinus I totally understand! I wouldn't mind the eating like a hog and sleeping all winter... but eating dirt and then having constipation all winter wouldn't be my idea of a good time!

@DaddyEvil Those things never even entered my mind. You just shattered my illusions. Do you have any other good news about this?

I could sleep all winter. Sometimes, I wish I was a bear. I could eat like a hog most of the year, go to sleep, and wake up skinnier, and when I was younger, my cubs at my side. The perfect life except I don't like raw fish.

The groundhog should move to a warmer place like California . We sometimes can't tell the seasons apart, so I wonder if Mr. Groundhog could . I wouldn't mind the waking up early part because I do that anyway . . . but if they want me in cold air, they better have some good hot coffee ready .

@akalinus Isn't that strange? We don't get snow cold here, but we've seen some oddities in nature around here too. Whatever the groundhog predicts, it'll be the opposite of that .

@much2say Probably so. You would think the law of averages would state that he would be right some of the time.

I know what you mean. I have seen flowers blooming in the snow and buds on trees form early and freeze after the cold returns. Even plants and animals are fooled sometimes.

They should let that poor animal sleep... if he is still hibernating this means it's winter and no matter what he sees the cold is here to stay another 40 days.

@akalinus Poor thing, I think that this is cruel, they should let him sleep until is the right time to get out of his burrow.

@LadyDuck I know that the right time is not the middle of winter on a very cold day. I agree with you. It is animal abuse.

It sure is winter here. There is a blizzard in the northeast and most of the states are frigid with cold. It is freezing here in Florida. Think of how the poor groundhog felt to be ripped out of his warm hole.

@akalinus You are a kind hearted lady.Is this groundhog a mouse or a squirrel?? Why people wake him up when he is sleeping in his warm hole?? It is winter. But here. But we are having sunny days. Spring is round the corner. However the Mercury has fallen down to 5 C.

There is a story about him seeing his shadow. Here is a news clip about it. It is a lot easier to let you read it than to try to explain it. Also, if you enlarge it, it shows a good photo of a groundhog. They are larger than you might think.
The groundhog will offer his prediction for the rest of winter without the usual thousands of revelers at Gobbler's Knob.

@Shivram59 They live in burrows in the ground. I knew you thought they were small and maybe you would like to see a photo of one. I wish they would just leave the poor thing alone. The groundhog predicted six more weeks of winter and nipped the guy's ear.

@akalinus Really!! I saw the clip. It's really interesting. It seems a groundhog is much bigger than a mouse or a squirrel. I have never seen a groundhog.I don't know whether they are found in India.

Even if he predicts an early spring, there would be no guarantee that it would happen that way.

I'd be ticked off. I think I would go all "Monty Python killer bunny" and behead a few humans. Have seen that scene? I think it's from Holy Grail. Anyway, I just remember it as backasswards. If he see's his shadow, Winter will be longer.

I searched it and they said he predicted six more weeks of winter. That's not what I wanted to hear. He bit the emcee's ear. So funny but he got his revenge.

If someone wake me in the middle of the night, I can never go back to sleep. If I was the groundhog, there would be an early spring every year because I wouldn't go back to sleep. If the ground hop sees his shadow(in the sunshine), oops! Back inside he goes and everyone gets 6 additional weeks of winter. Do I believe this? No.

It is just something that they do every year that does not mean much. The weather has a will of its own and does not care about the groundhog. Does spring ever come early in Michigan?

@akalinus And the weather is different everyplace in the country. So how could one silly groundhog speed up the warm weather? Yes, we get an early spring once in a while. This winter has been very mild, so far.
