Got my new dryer but still stuck with old one

When I bought the new LG (brand) gas dryer I thought everything was going to be done the same day—delivery and installation of the new dryer and removal of the old one. That wasn't the case.
They delivered the new dryer this Wednesday and were going to haul away the old one. We got the new one but the old one they didn't take because it was still hooked up. Apparently, they are not allowed to disconnect anything. The guys told us that the installation people will come and disconnect the old dryer and install the new one and then I have to call the store I bought it from (Home Depot) and schedule a haul away.
The installation people came today, disconnected the old dryer and installed the new one. I called Home Depot shortly after they left to schedule the haul away. I did that a few times but no one in the appliance department picked up. I tried just calling the store and talking to whoever picks up there but they just transferred me to the appliance department after I told them why I was calling. I gave up for the time being.
Tried calling them again in the afternoon. No one in the appliance department picked up. Tried one more time but no one picked up either, however, I guess I got transferred to the main line because a person came on. I told him my issue and he said there is no one in today because of snow and he has no authority to go into the system and schedule a haul away. What snow? It hardly snowed last night.
Anyway, he told me I have to try to call back tomorrow. I hope there will actually be someone in the appliance department. I don't want the darn dryer to keep standing in the middle of the basement for many days. It has to go. Not to mention that we had to pay $25 for the haul away.

That's sad that you got the run-around like that. As a former HD employee, I can tell you the company goes out of its way to make sure its customers are happy. When you call back, if you cannot get connected to the appliance department, ask to speak to a manager. The manager on duty should have full authority and access to schedule your haul away. If they give excuses, ask to speak to their boss (the store manager). If it doesn't get resolved then, tell them you are going to call corporate and file a complaint.

@lovebuglena That's horrible that you have been given the runaround like that. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out how to install a new appliance and haul the old one away. That just shows incompetency on their part all throughout their store.

@moffittjc I got through to an appliance person finally and they said the gas dryer had to have been disconnected when delivery guys came. They do not disconnect it. And because it wasn't ready to be picked up at delivery of new appliance I am stuck with the old dryer. They do not come back to pick up old appliances. I can get $25 haul away refund but disposing of the old dryer is on me now.
I decided to contact Home Depot via chat on their website. Did that a few times. And got the same result. Gas dryer has to be disconnected (from the gas) before delivery team comes. Delivery team cannot do it because they are not licensed technicians. I asked how is a customer supposed to disconnect the dryer when they are not licensed technicians either, to which I was told that we have to hire one. But if we have to hire one to disconnect old dryer might as well use that same person to install the new dryer and probably pay less than the $310 they charged us for installation.
I asked why the installation people (who disconnected old dryer and installed new one) cannot take it away and was told that apparently they have no room in their vehicle to do so. I think they are just not allowed to do it.
Home Depot does not come back for appliances. If the appliance is not disconnected upon arrival of delivery of new appliance you are stuck with that old appliance.
When we went to the store to get our haul away refund we asked if we buy a new fridge (which we are thinking of doing) if they can haul away the old fridge and the old dryer, even if we pay extra the dryer haul away. The appliance guy said they will not do that. But he said call 311 and they will tell you how to get rid of it. Will try that and hope it will work.

I called them back on Friday and after many attempts I managed to get a hold of a person (probably not in the appliance dept.) and I was told that the person that schedules the haul away won't be in until Monday (today). I just called a few times the appliance dept. and no one is picking up. Once, I got a hold of someone not in appliances and she told me she will transfer me to appliances. After I told her I already tried a few times and no one is picking up she transferred me to another extension but no one picked up there either.
This is ridiculous. I will try calling them back later in the day. Maybe I will get lucky and they will pick up.
I wish I had never gone to that location to get the damn dryer. Now I remember we had an issue with them when we ordered a sliding door for the balcony a few years ago. That whole installation thing dragged on for weeks, if not months.

Home Depot's $25 is not that bad. However, not being able to get a hold of the person to schedule the damn haul away is very frustrating. And to be stuck with the old dryer still, especially after having paid $25, is frustrating.

@porwest Yeah, they should. We can get a refund for the haul away but they won't come back to take the old dryer.

I don't blame you. Maybe another county had more snow? It's not uncommon for people to commute to work from further away.

I was thinking that perhaps that is the case.

@lovebuglena It sounds like it might be. I know people who work for some of the stores I visit, actually live a ways away.

@kaylachan I just hope this whole thing won't drag for a long time. Will try calling them again tomorrow.

@LadyDuck I finally got a hold of someone and was told they don't come back to pick up appliances. They will refund me the haul away charge but that's it.
I am stuck with the dryer.

Maybe but I am still stuck with the old dryer. Attempts to call Friday and today were unsuccessful. Friday the person that schedules haul away was not there and I was told she should be in Monday. Today (Monday) I can't get a hold of anyone in the appliance dept.

Hopefully you will be able to contact someone soon. It's good that it's in the basement and not on the first floor.

@lovebuglena Have you tried customer service? Ask to speak to a supervisor if you can't get anywhere.
