Today we picked up our new pet sheep, Harry and Solomon. Harry is the one with the shiny black face and black and white socks. Solomon, obviously, is the other one.
They were a bit difficult to load on the trailer to bring home but you can’t blame them for that. The temperature got to 39C so they had a hot trip home although the travelling would have created a breeze.
They have had a drink and some hay plus a couple of Weetbix each as a treat. They do seem very friendly and are quick to come to the fence if you go to visit them. We’re looking forward to getting to know them better. We’ve had six hours in the car today so I’m just about ready for bed. Unfortunately, it’s only 6.30pm.

i am still sheepish over my wrong goat guess.
But they look quite happy in the picture! Now you can make your own yarn!

@DocAndersen I had a spinning wheel but it used to really play up with my back so in the end I sold it.

They look like handsome fellows, Judy.
You know, you could always take a short nap and stay on myLot later in the night.

@JudyEv That's how it's been from midnight until now. I'm practically the only one here.

Welcome Harry and Solomon! Harry's droopy ears gives him a rather Eeyorish look. Solomon looks to be a fine figure of a gentleman. What breeds are they? I don't know whether Australian breeds are the same as English ones. I was going to say that Solomon looks like a Southdown or a Leicester Longwool and Harry might be a Derbyshire with his black and white face and longish ears.

We do have a lot of British breeds here but over the last decade or so, a lot of African breeds were introduced as they were more tolerant of our conditions. Also, sheep that shed because quite popular too. Harry was found wandering the streets with another lamb but the guess is that he is perhaps a Damara cross although he doesn't shed his wool. The shiny black legs and face are similar to Dorpers which are popular here but he seems much calmer than any Dorpers that I've had dealings with.
Solomon is a Texel cross (perhaps with a Merino). Texels originally came from the island of Texel in the Netherlands. The purebreds look to have no neck! lol
When I was a child, we had Suffolks and Dorset Horns on our farm. They were crossed with Merinos to produce fat lambs.

@LadyDuck Herc also knew 'time to go home now Herc' but I'm sure it was because it was always said with the same inflection and always had the same outcome. But as soon as I said it, he would trot off to his paddock. It always made me smile.

We'll stop at two. We'll have to buy a certain amount of feed for them and they're just a diversion really. Just pets - like having a cat or a dog. Did your cats end up using the houses you bought them? It's that time of year again I guess where they're looking for shelter.
