Why Was Obama Not Impeached?

I will start this off by saying that I likely would not have been onboard with impeachment of Obama at any time during his presidency. But if I am to weigh in on why I think Trump's impeachments were both entirely bogus, I have to consider whether or not had TRUMP did the things Obama did... Would they have tried to impeach Trump for it? And the answer is yes. They would have. So why did they not impeach Obama for these offenses? And if the offenses of Obama were far more dangerous and damaging, and they were, what made the standard so high for Obama and so low for Trump? Fast And Furious This was a special, secret operation Obama undertook that put arms into the hands of very dangerous Mexican drug cartels so that they could attempt to track the cartel's movements and activities. The lid was blown off Fast and Furious when an American border patrol agent was killed using these arms provided by the U.S. Government, and specifically the Obama administration, on his orders. The IRS Scandal When Obama was up for reelection, Obama directed the IRS to make it more difficult for, and to deny applications from conservative PACs and other conservative organizations for non-profit status with the sole purpose of stifling conservative dissemination of information regarding the election, and to do other things. In other words, Obama was making an attempt to lead the election in his favor. In EFFECT, he was tampering with the process of who and how information is effectively disseminated to the public. Benghazi After over 600 calls for help from the American consulate in Benghazi, clearly outlining in document after document that tensions were brewing and that attacks on the embassy were imminent, Obama and the State department refused to send troops, and refused to offer weapons to the ambassador and other members of the consulate. This resulted in the death of the ambassador, who was dragged through the streets in the attack, which also killed three other Americans assigned there. THEN, in an attempt to shift focus from the grave error, the administration LIED to the American people, saying that the attack was the result of an insensitive YouTube video. It was later revealed the video had nothing to do with it, and that the administration knew about the impending attack long before it occurred, and long before the video had been released. Had Trump been guilty of any of these things, don't you think articles of impeachment would have flooded the chambers? I think the answer is yes, because impeachment articles flooded the chambers for far less acts, whether or not the articles had any merit. So again, why was Obama not impeached?

We already know the answer to this one Jim. And to quote Hillary about Benghazi... "What difference at this point does it make".

That statement will forever live in infamy. Amazing that the American people did not completely shut her down after that very careless, and insensitive remark. Instead, many people actually considered her presidential material. Imagine the reaction of the people had Trump stood before the American people and made that remark about other things? Covid deaths? The riot? What sometimes frustrates me more than anything is what the left gets away with saying that the right is held to account for if they say certain things.

@CarolDM I think the one thing that the Trump impeachments taught us is that politics will far outweigh what is best for the country in the end, and we all need to be very afraid of that and not let it happen again. Impeachment should only ever be a last resort in only the most extreme of cases. I would not have supported impeachment of Obama. I did not support the impeachment of Bill Clinton. Nixon would have been justified had it happened. The fact that we have made a mockery of even this does not bode well for the country's future.

Maybe because the Republicans realized that impeachment is a serious legal matter and NOT a political ploy. (A lesson they had to learn with Clinton in the 90s.)

I agree with your premise but not necessarily your sentiment as I perceive it to be. I may be wrong, but I am assuming your sentiment, based on your wording, is that you agree that the offenses Trump was impeached for warranted impeachment. Set aside for a moment MY belief that the claims made in the articles of impeachment were not only baseless. They were far from impeachable offenses in my opinion. You may be surprised to know that I did not support the impeachment of President Clinton, nor did I believe the basis for his impeachment was "impeachable," and I do believe that the republicans were wrong in their pursuit of this, and yes, they paid a price for it politically. The impeachments by the democrats WERE a political ploy. Because none of the offenses were impeachable in my opinion. This was simply a grand attempt by the democrat party to remove the president from office simply because they did not like him, and because they could not accept he won. That was the ENTIRE basis for BOTH impeachments, the final one of course being a last ditch effort just to twist the knife yet a little more. In my opinion, impeachment is a very powerful and beneficial tool that we should use ONLY IN THE ABSOLUTE WORST CASE SCENARIO. I mean, we're talking about serious grievous crimes detrimental to the health and security of the nation. Blatant and severe abuse of power and government. I feel strongly enough about it that while I cited the offenses for comparison of Obama, I ALSO said I would not have supported impeachment OF Obama for these offenses. There is a reason I do these kinds of posts, and that is to help to illustrate where my viewpoints stem from. Too often it becomes the perception that "you just support Trump and that's why you think this is all a waste of time." Not the case for me. America first. Country first. Presidents and parties second. That's how I roll. I don't say I dislike a policy from a democrat just because it's a policy from a democrat. At the same time I do not automatically support a policy from my own side just because it is a policy matter from my own side. I do my best to support my views, and my opinions based on facts, and without bias to a party or a president I happen to like. All I am saying is that if we compare the "offenses," and the gravity of the "offenses," those that were more severe and more damaging were Obama's laid side by side with what Trump was actually impeached for. SERIOUSLY more damaging. And yet there was no talk of impeachment. When you view it that way it changes the entire perspective of what the REAL reason was behind the impeachments, and it illustrates clearly that the impeachments were not at all related to what's best for the country, or a threat to national security, or grievous abuse of power. It was CLEARLY a political maneuver that was done ENTIRELY out of hatred and contempt over a loss of an election. I apologize for the long winded response. But I want to make it very clear that I am not a Trump supporter first. I am not a republican first. I am an AMERICAN first. And what happens in my government, and things that threaten the fabric of this nation are what I care about regardless of party and regardless of who is president. If Trump did anything worthy of impeachment, you can best believe I would have been right there with the democrats and said, "Get him out of there." It is important to me for people to fully understand that my support of ANY president is NOT without conditions for my continued support.

They didn't like Trump and so decided to get him out of office via bogus impeachments, none of which led to anything. And it was clear they wouldn't lead to anything. They'd probably try to impeach him three times if possible. I wonder if Obama wasn't impeached because he was a Democrat or because he was "likeable". And if it was during Obama that the January 6th thing at the Capitol happened would Obama get impeached for inciting insurrection? I have a feeling the answer would probably be a no.

Right, and part of that is because when Obama was president we still had a modicum of sensibility as a people would never have suggested that any words Obama might have used would have incited something. Even today when we think about the words of Chuck Schumer that encouraged the attempted murder of Justice Kavanaugh, I am sensible and rational enough to understand that Schumer cannot be blamed for the actions of someone else because of what he said.

Didn't the GOP control Congress for most of Obama's presidency?

Yes. This is true. But it has nothing to do with the post. AND they, the GOP never even talked about impeachment. They disagreed with the president. They fought to stop damaging policies. But they were not on a campaign to attack the president at every turn.
