Astounded

Astounded is how the dealership felt when my husband brought in our car battery to replace. A really good battery might last 72 months, or six years. This car is eleven years old. Who knows exactly when it was given its original battery. Yes, you heard me right. My husband had to remove the original battery (11 yrs. plus old) and go get another one. He did it right at closing last night. They were astounded as the battery was the kind that was the original equipment on the car. We had had no trouble with it.The previous owner had had no trouble with it. This cold weather just knocked it out. We believe that was the only problem with that vehicle. Hubby had gotten in the truck to go get a new battery, and it seems a belt broke on the truck. He thinks the serpentine belt. Glad it will be above freezing for him to check it out today. Glad he could drive the Capri to go get the new battery. We will see what today brings.

We had a Ford Fiesta and the original battery lasted 13 years, consider that for a while we used the car on the French Riviera and the saline water is not the best for a battery.

That is great service from the battery. Our son and his wife had a battery last for 9 years on their current vehicle. Today they will trade it in for a brand new truck. Our son is a very tall man, and is thrilled to have a large vehicle that he will feel comfortable in. I hope that they get as good service from this vehicle as they did their last.

I'm amazed, too. However, if you take care of the car then batteries can last quite a long time. We tend to get three-four years out of ours maybe a little more. So far, we haven't had to replace the battery in the van, but we've only had it two-three-ish years.

Our vehicles usually sit out in the weather extremes. I think that is hard on them.

I'm glad to hear there was another vehicle for him to use to get the battery. Will he get the belt at the same time or at a place that sells parts? Good thing you're husband's can fix his own parts. We always had to have vehicles towed to the mechanics instead.

Sometimes we need that. No, the battery came from a dealership. The belt from O'Reilleys. Hubby is gone getting a new pulley for said belt, because it came off as well.

@GardenGerty we had that once where we needed the pulley and the belt.

They obviously don't make batteries like they used to.

@GardenGerty I'm sure that has a lot to do with it too although I'm not sure how you care for a battery other than making sure it is topped up with water. That would certainly be important. And keeping the points clean I guess.

Battery goes, serpentine belt goes... are you waiting for a third thing to go?

Third thing did go, tensioner pulley that the serpentine belt goes around. Vehicles gang up on us. Oh, and we shredded a tire due to low air. We have spent around $400 on car parts the last two days.

That's really amazing. My car battery only last two years the most. Or maybe because I am using cheap battery. I am using dry battery.

It could be because you do not get a high quality battery.
