I'm playing with blocks

and I can't use babysitting as an excuse!
I think I said this the other day on my dollar tree haul post, but I almost didn't find these. These weren't actually the ones I was looking for (dollar tree sells some that are bigger) BUT these will work well too. I have five boxes of 36 each which equals 180 blocks in total. six of the blocks will probably not be used.
I like that there are two different colors of these. I'm going to need to get more of these (and I'll be calling around to see if the dollar trees near me have the bigger ones in stock before I go) and making a tiered shelf for my desk.
I'll share progress / finished project when I get around to it. I'll be using little square blocks to build the tiers too.
I have no idea what to ask here / if I should ask anything here so...
uhm..oooh! Ahh!
Who remembers the little rubber band things you could get at craft stores years ago (and probably still can) ? They were made of fabric and oooh so much fun to play with.

These:
I honestly have no idea why my mom got them (I can't remember, I was like 6-8 when I was playing with these) but I ended up playing with these, jacks and marbles together. No, I didn't sling the marbles across the room and try to hit my siblings!

@DaddyEvil Yeah, I tried something similar a few years ago as I wanted to get my niece into crafting. I'm betting the ones I had as a kid were on clearance and mom bought them because I thought they were pretty or something. She was always trying to get us interested in crafting when I was younger.

Are you talking about actual rubber bands or popular hair ties for girls? Because I use the later to pull my hair back from my face.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Oh.... I don't remember those. Thanks for the clarification though.

I really like the pattern you created with your blocks. Hope you can find the bigger ones you're looking for.

I had to buy them at the dollar tree's website, but I found them. None of the stores around me have them in stock and none of the people I talked to seemed friendly enough to answer a few questions (like, "Will you get these back in?")

@Marilynda1225 It is. One of the ladies seemed friendly but she also seemed pretty harried, so I just got off the phone. I'll probably make a trip to both of the local dollar tree's in the next few days to see what I can get.

@ScribbledAdNauseum at least you were able to find them online. It's sad when employees aren't friendly when you call to ask a question.

I love them. A few have some imperfections and some are stamped with the manufacturer name, but I can easily hide that. There are many projects I want to make with these, I will need to go to the store and buy more soon.

Thanks! I have so many different ideas. I just called three of the dollar stores around me and they don't have the big blocks. I'll have to get them on the website. The website doesn't have the smaller blocks so go figure. I might have to go get some while the getitng is still good for those.

I'm not familiar with those but you might also find something like that in the point tail section of kids wear cloth covered bands. It seems I've seen something like that but I'm not sure.
I'm interested in seeing your shelf. Feel free to mention me or remind me when your being posting about it.

Someone here reminded me that those cloth loops are used to make potholders. It's a kids craft project, but as a child I used them when playing with jacks and marbles.
It may be some time before I complete the project. I worked on part of it, but I need to get a few more items before I work on it again.

@MarshaMusselman What I need can be found at the dollar tree. I am going to attempt to use only dollar tree items for this project.
I have a Hobby Lobby, Michael's & Joann's Fabrics here. The latter is further away than the former.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I don't go into craft stores very often. If you have a Joann's fabric store they might have them to they seem to carry a lot more than what they used to have.

Yeah, they still sell those fabric loops at Michaels for making potholders! I think you can still get the looms there too.

Yeah, i didn't realize that's what they were used for until someone else reminded me / told me about it. At that time I just used them to play with the jacks and marbles I had.

That sounds like a cool project! I was wondering what you were going to do with them. Will be great to see the progress/finished project. Not sure I remember the rubber band things, I must have missed that!

I have a few ideas for these and more. I need to call around to find out how likely it is I'll get the big blocks at the actual locations or if I should just buy those online. The fabric bands were actually used to make potholders. Someone else here reminded me of that. I'm assuming my mom bought them for me on clearance and just let me play with them however I saw fit.

@MommyOfEli2013 I think you can use the bands I was referring to on a little metal loom type thing. I actually did make potholders out of those types of bands a few years ago and forgot about it.

@ScribbledAdNauseum That's great to hear....and good idea to call around and see if they have them. Oh - okay about the bands. I started thinking about the loom band things, but think that is different lol
