Shirley the Elephant Passed Away at Sanctuary

The local news yesterday talked about an elephant that recently passed away at the Elephant Sanctuary at 72 years old.
Shirley was the oldest elephant at The Elephant Sanctuary and second oldest in North America.
Shirley lived an amazing life. The link talks about where she was born, her times in the circus, her life at a zoo, then finally at the Elephant Sanctuary only about an hour from where I live.
I enjoyed watching the video in the link as well. You can see that elephants actually do have an incredible memory. May she rest in peace.

that is such a great tribute! In Thailand elephants are treasures. I remember driving along a road, seeing an elephant and human walking along the same road.

@DocAndersen I know Doc, this place is cloudy but they do not allow visitors. I would love to go one day. This story was so special.

How old do elephants normally live for? Thatnk you for selling this with us Carol. Shirley certainly will be remembered and had quite a life. It sounds the Sanctuary was a good place for her to live out the rest of her life. Rest in peace Shirley.

@CarolDM The reunion with the elephant that she knew was very special. Elephants are so intelligent and compassionate. Her passing brought tears to my eyes.

@CarolDM Just came back from reading about her and watching the videos. That one guy that took care of her for over 20 made me cry like a baby.
