But I can't, so I shan't. Or something like that. I'm sitting here today looking through youtube and restoration videos of old houses. I'd love to restore old houses, but well.. Not restore them. Like, I'd love to be on the site and watch them be restored and walk through them and all, but.. I don't want to do any of the work. So.. I would if I could, but I can't so I shan't I'm that person you see walking through old abandoned houses when they really shouldn't. Do you like old houses too?

No way, they could be haunted. Old houses creep me out!

@AngelisaQT But most ghosts don't try to hurt people. They just miss being alive.

I don't mind seeing them but don't want to have to do the restoration work, either.

I'd love to be invited to the set of some shows I've seen, or invite myself when I see a restoration in my area (which isn't often). Just don't had me a hammer and nails and expect me to do anything more than hold them.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I learned the hard way not to go near anything being restored. People expect a guy to be enthusiastic about 'helping out'... but I'm really not that interested.

@DaddyEvil Yeah, interested enough to be nosy but not helpful. That is me. Of course, I've also gone through modern day houses while they are being constructed. Went with my dad when I was like 7 or 8 years old so he could steal tools from a jobsite that wasn't his.

I like old houses. The oldest house I've lived in was from the 1860s, and I found it fascinating to imagine what it used to look like. My room used to be the servant's room. The bathroom next to the room was new, but the stairs were extremely old and a little dangerous. The new owners have probably torn them down by now. I kind of liked the very worn and authentic look of them, but you had to walk very slowly. I have also lived in a house from 1918. The basement was creepy and there was an old toilet which was really disgusting. We never used it. The walls of the basement used to be pink! When we renovated the bedroom we removed many, many layers of old wallpaper and I couldn't help imagining the people who used to live there. Old houses fascinate me

@ScribbledAdNauseum On the island where I used to live there is an old mansion. In the basement it is possible to see the rooms that used to belong to the servants. The rooms contain furniture and other things. It was interesting to see the rooms, but also sad. I couldn't help imagining what it would be like to live in those tiny, cold, dark rooms. That's sad -the tearoom sounds like an interesting place. I love the idea. The attic you described reminds of me a video about secret attic rooms I saw on YouTube. Some of those rooms were used as hiding placing during the Second World War and some them were used for family members who were mentally ill.

I've watched house tours in the past and seen rooms that used to belong to servants. I always wonder how much life is still left in those rooms and how it physically felt to be in that room. I'm sure there was an oppressed feel to them. I love old houses too. Some of the old houses here in my city have been turned into businesses, which I absolutely love. A tea room recently closed pending a relocation which is a pity. The place they were in used to belong to one of the town's prominent figures and was built in the early 1900's. Oh, your stairs make me think of something else I've seen on youtube. A home built in the 1800's with a large attic room that led straight into the kitchen. The owners have made it their bedroom, but I imagine it was once where slaves or servants slept.

@Porcospino Oh yes. I've seen videos and pictures of the types of beds the servants were forced to sleep in. I think some even had to sleep two people to one small bed. I can't imagine getting up every day after such a restless sleep. I watched an episode of a show that talked about the history of places once. There's a house here in my city that has a sort of secret room, but it isn't in the attic. I believe a soldier as stowed there once, but I don't remember why. If memory serves, Anne Frank hid in an attic.

@Tina30219 I might even convert one room into a library, depending on the size of the house and the rooms available.

@RebeccasFarm Mine too. I once watched a video of a man who goes around metal detecting. He found a house from the 1700's that was nothing more than a shell. The owner's father allowed someone to come and tear up all the flooring in the place. The poor old man wasn't in his right mind at all when this happened, and it devastated the owner who had planned to fix it up when he got back from active duty.

Just imagine everything we'd find? Original wood flooring! My favorite would be restoring the fireplaces.

Oh! There's a game.. I can't remember exactly what it's called but you have to restore houses and try to sell them. It's available on steam and I will buy it one day, but I haven't yet.

@aureategloom Oh, I've played homescapes before. Yes, those games do get boring after awhile. I like playing the sims or minecraft every once in awhile too. In minecraft I build my own houses.

No thank you. Most old abandoned houses already have 'tenants'. I'm not interested to be their roommate.

This is true. There are lots of crevices for such "tenants" to make themselves at home.

I could get lost in those types of shows for days. I have Discovery + (is it avaiable in Canada?) and I haven't made my way over to the restoration shows yet, but I will.

@LindaOHio There's a house in my neighborhood, actually I think there are two, which have these little balconies on them. These were built circa 1970's though.

I used to love watching a lot of these shows. Back in the day there was "This Old House" on PBS which I loved. Now of course you can watch this sort of thing day and night. But yes...I'm a watcher too. As for the phrase, your way is better. I always just said, "I would if I could, but I can't, so I won't." At least your way rhymes. lol

Yes and the rooms are so much different. Some houses have big rooms and some houses have rooms that are too small. It's funny to see how they've changed.
