Hitchcockian Hilarity

After breakfast I saw some ducks, geese, and pigeons by the river, along with a sign warning people not to feed bread to the birds. That made me believe they were selling bird food. They were, so I bought a little and went to feed the critters. What ensued can only be called Hitchcockian hilarity. Remember The Birds (or you’ve heard of the movie)? That was me. It was so funny, too! During the two bags (small bags, mind you) I had pigeons treating me like I was a statue: one on my back, one on my left shoulder, one on my right shoulder, one on my left hand, one on my right hand, and even one on my head! And before you ask, no, they didn’t treat me like a statue in that regard. While the geese and ducks were slightly more patient, the pigeons were not. I even landed on my butt, complaining that four or five of the birds tackled me. Oh, was it fun!! I wish I could’ve snapped some photos, but I had my hands full....of bird seed and birds.

To bad you were alone, that would've been one hell of a photo. When we lived at the breakers, the birds always knew we had food. If we weren't careful, Ducks would walk into our apartment.

They crawled all over me, but they left no souvenirs, bless ‘em.

@DianneN — I didn’t have to sanitize the jacket I was wearing, just a good washing. And a pigeon isn’t a foo bird. You’ve heard about the foo bird: if the foo sh*ts, wear it!

How did you guess what I would ask? Most places, even if they don't sell bird food, have signs now warning against feeding bread to wild birds. It can cause their wings to grow weird so the birds can't fly.

Tom Lehrer’s classic “Poisoning Pigeons in the Park” was based on New York City trying that approach in the late 1940s/early 1950s to curtail the problem of the bird poop damaging the statues and other things like buildings. It’s an obvious question.

@FourWalls Wild birds fed white bread get problems where the tips of their wings curl our and is called 'angel wings' and keeps them from flying. Yeah, but I still wanted to ask anyway.

I believe I did see one heron standing on a rock in the middle of the creek, waiting for a fish to swim by.

It's too bad the pigeons took over. I would love to feed the ducks and geese in peace. I'm glad you had fun!

I prefer ducks to geese or pigeons, but it was a blast anyway. And this WAS in PIGEON Forge!

Oh my word, when I first read your title, my eyes saw Hillary instead of Hilarity! I definitely remember the movie. You had fun with the birds. What a day for you.

That sounds like having fun with the birds. I had birds by a bus stop in Riga Latvia I loved to feed every time we were at the market. So they all gathered and there were many and as you say they were even on my arms and shoulder and one time one landed right on my hand and I fed it separately because the pigeon was young and seemed scared of all the others,

Critters love their food, don't they? I'm glad the pigeons don't mess on you.
