100 year ago today: Lion or Lamb

United States

This was borrowed from The Idaho Springs siftings-news. (Idaho Springs, Colo.) 1905-19??, March 16, 1921, Image 1 Found on chroniclingamerica.loc.gov This one took me a minute. Do you see the father looking out the keyhole of the door as his wife, child and dog look on? He's looking for spring. Is winter going out like a lion (ferociously) or like a lamb (quietly)? I know many are still experiencing those wintry days. We had a very mild winter here and I'm enjoying spring like temps already. A little on the colder side, but that's fine by me! I'm not quite ready to let go of the idea of snow. What do ya think of this comic?

@stephcjh I need to start walking the neighborhood again for exercise but I am not looking forward to when the humidity begins.

I would interpret the comic in the sense that he wants to be sure that there is not a lion outside before opening the door. We had a mild winter and yesterday a classic March wind, spring is here.

I'm not so sure about that. If that were the case, why would his family be surrounding him?

@LadyDuck Possibly, but the mother is wearing an apron. It makes me think they are waiting for spring.

red flowers
I enjoy the spring season in my young country. Israel is less than 73 years old so far. Some beautiful flowers have grown up even in the electricity logistic center facility.

Nature prevails against everything. I love that.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I sometimes wish trees could grow up on concrete and asphalt, dig with their roots, and contain some metal so it would makes them very hard to cut. That would make it worth less to cut trees, and too risky to build stuff...we would have to live with nature the way it was.

@stringer321 I admire those who make homes using things like mud and clay. I've seen people build a home out of clay before and even used recycled plastics to make a doorway for themselves.

Cute comic. I suppose winter is going out like a lion, we've had 3 out of 4 days of sand storms, I hate those things.

You'd be right. I don't go out when there's that kind of wind and sand.

Yikes! Yeah, that has to be horrible. I'm assuming it wreaks havoc on the allergies and makes it nearly impossible to go anywhere.

Clever comic. I am hoping against hope that we are done with the s**w for this winter.

I can't say I hope so, because I'd love snow... BUT, I hope so for your sake.
