Waiting for a train.

When we go shopping each week to do our `big shop', we have to go across a level crossing. Up to a few weeks ago we could go there and back without having to wait at the crossing for a train to go past. But just recently, we are having to wait for trains on the way there and on the way back. Sometimes we have to wait for two or more trains to go by and this can take up to 20 minutes each time.
We always go shopping at the same time each week and now we are wondering why we are having to keep waiting when we did not have to before.

You go shopping every week? Why so often?
I think I'd only make the mistake of needing to wait on the trains only once before I changed the time I go shopping.

@lazydaizee I don't know if that's a lot for other people, but it is for me. I go once a month so I'm less exposed to Covid. If I forget something, I just do without until the next month.
Is there a way for you to find out the train schedules?

@DaddyEvil I could get a timetable I suppose and try to go shopping when the trains are less frequent, but it does seem to be a problem throughout the whole day. Maybe the best time to shop would be at night when the trains are not running.
I know people who only shop once a month because they get paid monthly and they buy enough food before their money runs out. As we get paid weekly , it is easier to shop every week.

Is once a week a lot to go shopping?
Other people have mentioned the problems with the trains and they all travel at different times of the day. The problem is made worse because they were going to build a bridge across the railway years ago, but they could not in the end because they ran out of money.

@JudyEv So far we have been lucky with it because the weather has been cold, but we will have to be careful in the summer because some foods do not take long to defrost.

It is a long time to wait especially on the way home when we have frozen food in the bags. I worry about the food starting to defrost.

Everything seems to be changing now and not for the best.

@lazydaizee You got that right. I think it is to the point of no return also.

That is a good idea, but I think this is a problem that lasts throughout the day. I have heard other people saying that they have the same trouble.

It could be a change in schedule but I think they are just running more trains for some reason. There seems to be more of those long trains that carry gravel and not people.

@prasuns This may be a good idea but the train problem seems to last all day because other people have complained about it and they all go out at different times. The trouble is that this is a busy road and when the cars are waiting for so long, it causes traffic jams further up the road.

@lazydaizee Then another idea could be that you can change your shopping time and go when the frequency of trains is less.

I enjoy travelling by train when there is some nice scenery to look at on the way.
