Didn’t we just have this last week? “This,” meaning a severe weather day/tornado outbreak threat. Well, that’s spring in the south. I’ll just keep calm and pray. Dreams of sunny days are in my head, as is another song with “dream” in the title. Here’s today’s song. #7: Simple Man, Simple Dream - J.D. Souther Posting songs like this make me realize how much I miss our myLotter John Roberts. He’s a big Linda Ronstadt fan. Ronstadt covered this song on her mega 1977 album Simple Dreams; and, of course, Ronstadt and J.D. Souther used to be an “item.” And he’d be here, telling you all of this. Now I have to do it all by myself. Of course, I’m a pretty big Linda Ronstadt fan, too, as well as a fan of her former boyfriend. But I do give an edge to Souther’s version. No, he doesn’t have Ronstadt’s voice, but there’s a different tone in his original that changes the meaning of the song than what Ronstadt’s tone implied. That’s part of the genius of Linda Ronstadt (she did that with Elvis Costello’s “Alison”). But since I’m such a singer/songwriter lover I have to post Souther’s rendition.
