We might have a big decision to make today

It’s 5.30 am here which is pretty early for me. In a couple of hours, we’ll be heading for Perth to look at some display homes in a lifestyle village. Depending on the outcome of today’s meeting, it’s most likely we’ll be putting our lovely acreage on the market and moving to a big city.
We want to make the move while we can make the choice rather than have someone making the choices for us. It’s getting harder to cope with the work here, not that we do much, but best to move now while we’re both well and more or less fit. We’ve already started decluttering heavily, just in case you hadn’t noticed from my discussions, and we’ll continue doing that whatever the outcome of today.
On the way home, we’re taking a heap of stamps and first day covers to a stamp collector to try to get rid of what we have. Our sons collected stamps and I had thought that one day some might be valuable but it seems the market has dropped out of stamps, as it has many other things.
The photo shows stamps from several lesser-known countries and some I’ve never heard of – namely, Sharjah, Ajman, Manama, Kampuchea, and Samara. I know where Chad and Togo are. Did you collect stamps as a child?

@judyev I was an avid philatelist as a child. I continued collecting stamps of Malawi once we returned to Ireland when I was 14 as a strange way of keeping a link with the place. A sentimental collection that is more of less worthless. I hope the right decision about moving becomes obvious to you when you head to Perth. Best to think ahead, but it's important not to be rushed into anything. Hope too that you both have the same opinion about the place you look at.

That's a big step, but sounds logical.
I used to collect stamps. I got interested while working at LSU since we had lots of visiting scientists from all over the world. I ended up giving them to one of my daughters who probably threw them all away. They were all canceled stamps anyway. Just a fun little hobby!

No but my husband collected coins and some are still here somewhere.
I didn't realize you were thinking of moving quite so quickly. It's the place you're checking out where your friends live?

@JudyEv did you decide on whether you'll be getting a place there yet or do you have to wait six months first

@MarshaMusselman The house we'd like would be ready about August so we're planning to sell before that if possible.

Yes, my sister collected stamps for a while but, she didn't continue for very long. I've never collected stamps, myself. Jay and I are thinking about downsizing someday, to a smaller home.

@kobesbuddy We have less visitors now and much fewer dinner parties. We don't really need so much room. We've been spoilt here.

@JudyEv Our home is large enough for company, but nobody comes here any more.

I can understand how difficult it must be for you to take that decision but reading through your decluttering posts I knew you had reached the most important step and that "We must search for another place" All the best

Wow, that is a big decision. I may have to consider something similar soon as well.

@JudyEv That makes good sense and it is something I need to seriously consider.

So, if you move, you are moving to Perth? I always thought it would be neat to visit Perth if I ever visited Australia.

Stamps aren't worth much at all now but we did get rid of all of these. We will look at buying one of the places we saw today. It will hinge on whether we can sell our place quickly enough.

Oh, no! What will happen to your beloved pets? I can totally understand why you are doing this though. If we had to move, in spite of the decluttering that I have done, it would take us years to get rid of enough "stuff" to move into one of those communities. Yes, I used to collect stamps as a child. It's too bad that the market is soft for stamps. Have a good week!

@LindaOHio Thanks very much. They say you can get used to anything so let's hope that's the case.

@JudyEv Glad to hear it. I don't know how I would feel about having to move to the city; but it's better than staying too long in your home. Good luck.

I think many African nations got swallowed by others but perhaps it was meant to be Sahara.
