Just in case you had any doubt whatsoever as to what would close out this month-long look at favorites with “dream” in the title, I’m confirming it today. Most of you knew, back on February 27 or so when I announced this subject, what would be #1. And it is.
#1: In Dreams - Roy Orbison
A candy-colored clown they call the sandman
Tiptoes to my room every night
Just to sprinkle stardust and to whisper
”Go to sleep, everything is all right”
You know something? That opening could be the entire freaking song and it would still be the number one song. That is my all-time favorite opening of any song.
But Roy Orbison went on with other fabulous lyrics in this heartbreak tune. THEN he wrapped those golden pipes of his around the lyrics when he recorded it.
Sweet dreams ARE made of songs like this classic.
Thanks for reading.

Uhm... I prefer not to see a clown, especially not before, during or after I go to sleep.
