All Shaken Up: Scared?!?

More or less 6:00 AM, my bed was shaken up by an earthquake with a magnitude of 3.8. I was about to jump off my bed and still feel sleepy. I am sure my bed and pillows were surprised, too. I just heard my younger brother said it is gone now. I went back to sleep and woke up at 9:00 AM. I haven't checked the epicenter of this shaking us up early in the morning. How would you react if you felt the ground is shaking? Image Credit: thumbs.dreamstime.com

I would not even feel a quake of that magnitude. Our country has more earthquakes than any other country and I don“t worry with an earthquake below 5.5 and up.

@marguicha Just curious, maybe a coward, haha, that part is true but you do not feel the the difference, maybe it is a California thing. There is a rolling kind and they do not scare me but also a jerky kind and those the ones that punish buildings here at least anyway.

@Shavkat I know we slept in local park because we were scared after two massive quakes and epicenter was like 50 miles away so we felt it all. I am sure same with you on an island.

I got traumatized before because we experienced a killer earthquake in 1990. With a sudden shook of the ground, I am a bit jumpy.

Actually I haven't experienced the earthquake much. I remember when we travelled to Japan, I did experience it very late at night. At that time I felt the building was moving but I even didn't realize it was the earthquake. The feeling was just quite strange to me. We are not sensitive to this natural disaster.

I can relate to you. It was like having a lightheaded feeling. I think Japan is also a country that randomly experiences aftershocks.

Good to know that everything is okay. Usually with such less magnitude I rarely get a feeling of an earthquake even if I do I would jump off the bed and will move out of the house with my family.

I am a light sleeper person that makes me awaken because of it. My mom did not feel it. She seems so tired and slept all the way.

That is frightening! We had a similar earth quake about 10 years ago. I felt trembling of the floor and room, then realized it was an earth quake. I said a prayer and was praying for it to stop

@Shavkat sorry to hear this. Yes, this must make a person very paranoid of any shakes in the earth.

People think I am crazy 3.8 so small, why even make a post because if been through a big one you do get stressed when some these little quakes happen. Here they they call it the California roll. If you get the California roll, its cool you ride the wave. Then there is the jerky kind and those are the scary ones. . It does matter how small they are, you feel the jerk and the big quakes here start just like that. and can be small then gets bigger and bigger and you literally run for your life. So sometimes they do not progress but when you feel that jerk I am heading for a door way no matter what.

I also experienced an earthquake that does not shake side-to-side. The killer happened here in 1990. It started in an oscillation movement before it shakes sideways. That's the reason why so many houses and tall buildings were crashed down and many people were buried alive.

Good thing it was not an intensity 6-7 like the infamous Baguio quake.

I never did enjoy it. It was like a feeling that Jesus is coming down from the sky.

@Shavkat Hmm... if I thought Jesus was coming down from the sky, I'm not sure I would be able to go back to sleep for several hours. Anything that startles me awake means I can't go back to sleep for several hours.

We have many 3.8s in California. I am somewhere between scared and excited when they occur.

Felt way more stronger earthquakes than that. It is no fun. Other times, I got worried and actually went out. Other times, it was short that it was over before soon enough.

The only problem if it is on the mountain. There is a possibility that it will result in land erosion, which it happens in some places before.

Glad you are all right at least and I hope there is no more shaking going on, Believe it or not but I have felt shaking of the ground at least several times when I live in NYC and each time it felt funny and it gave me a strange feeling of fright because in NYC I lived in an apartment building and if that goes down forget it, Of course, NYC does not really have earthquakes but whey that happens now and then I do not know

I can relate to you when living in a tall building. How much more if the structure is very old. Either earthquake or not, it can make us feel the shaking of the ground and the same thing as the structure of a building or a house.
