The cool weather this year has cause many flowers and trees to be slow to bloom and leaf. I was glad to see the smoke tree (shrub in our yard) in the front is starting to show leaves.
A favorite shrub to have in the front. We keep it cut back so it doesn't take over the sidewalk.
Grown as a large shrub or small tree, the plant offers oval leaves in shades of purple, gold, or green through the gardening season. In the fall, they turn shades of yellow, orange, and red.
Smoke tree gets its common name from the frothy, fluffy buff-pink summertime bloom clusters. It does well in hot, dry conditions once the plant is established.
Photo is mine.

We had a shrub plant that colour when we first moved to our former home.
With the warmth and then cold (freeze) that we have had, our son is hopeful that the gypsy moth eggs will not survive the cold and there will be less caterpillars in a couple of months. Last year they were terrible and very messy-they have a wrap around wood covered porch, which was constantly in need of being hosed down.

Very pretty. That would be a nice addition to the weeds in our front "flower" garden.
