Spring Cleaning and Valuable Treasures Found

Spring is a time to start anew. A time to go through the house discarding old stuff you have been storing accumulating dust and spider webs. Well, before you take those items to Goodwill, the Salvation Army, do a Yard Sale, or list them online for a few bucks, you might want to do some research first. You just might have something of value stored away! Items like dolls, old typewriters, vintage dishes, cuckoo clocks, toys and jewelry are a few keepsakes that go back decades and could be valuable. In my case, I wish my Mom hadn't thrown my 1960's collection of baseball cards in the trash when I went away to college. That was a spring cleaning that proved costly for me when the card values shot up many years later. Which brings me to my questions for today... Did you ever throw out some old item you thought was worthless only to find out it was valuable years later? What was the item? Or, did you discover a valuable item cleaning up you had stored away and successfully sold it? Source info- Country Living Photo- popsugar.com

@dgobucks226 we sold some comic books a few months back when my neighbor brought me a bunch to our house: he didn’t care what we did with them so we brought this to places that buys and sell comics.

@ShyBear88 Wish I had kept mine. I had many. Guess they were thrown out during a spring cleaning. You probably received a few bucks for those comics. Especially if you had some that were rare finds.

Yes, certain trading cards like Pokemon have value. Here are some other interesting items from the 70's worth quite a bit of money today: Nancy Drew books and lunch boxes, Sports Illustrated Board Games, rare comic books and model trains.

But who is going to buy those valuables? Other than precious metals or gems most other items are only valuable if there are buyers willing to pay.

Depends on the items. There are buyers out there if you have the right one. just look on Ebay for example. I've sold vinyl albums and a Koss headset on there also used Craigslist where you can list for free. Then in my area there are Antique dealers or Pawn shops who may be interested.

That's true, it does depend on the items and collectors of those items. I don't shop on ebay.

I lost all my dolls. I had some Barbie dolls from the 60's that my dad threw up in the top of a garage and the rats got them all . Very sad over that as the original dolls were very valuable. I also lost baseball cards. I had left those in our home in Louisiana that one of our daughters and boyfriend were living in when the house flooded. I had asked her to get everything up high in the closets. My photos albums were in closet and baseball cards. Well she thought HER things were more importannt and I lost all of my photos back to when I started taking photos as a kid.

Those Barbie dolls are valuable. According to the article I posted, special edition Barbie dolls go for $250-500 dollars! That tragic about the photos. You can't reclaim those memories. No, and no. Usually the oppsite. Things are only valuable if they can be authinticated and if they are kept in good condition. Which most things aren't.

Yes, good point. You really have to be forward thinking to hold onto something a long time and keep it in pristine condition.

Early last year, we have so unpacked boxed since we moved to a new house. They are valuable and we left the old things that we think are useless in the old house.

Once I get rid of something I don't think about it again. I doubt anything I got rid of would ever be considered valuable later on in life.

My CDs, DVSs, and cassette tape collections. My mom threw all of it when I moved houses and had to leave most of my collection behind at our home.

@dgobucks226 agree with you. There's money in memorabilia. Some people's trash are other people's treasures.

Oh no! Tragic! I've received some money from selling CD's, cassettes and Vinyl records over the years. Enough sold to buy myself a nice dinner at a restaurant. I think that "theoretically" some things look valuable, but if you try to sell them, nobody buys.

@dgobucks226 They weight the jewels and pay you the price of the gold. No one wants old fashioned jewels.

I told my children to clean the playroom. I also promised if they didn't, I would throw out everything left lying around. My son lets me know often I threw out the now valuable first edition Star Wars figures. I told him, he needed to clean the room or face the consequences.

We have collected a lot of valuable items over the years; but I gave a lot of them to Goodwill and the Salvation Army -- We had boxes and boxes of them. I wish I had my Beatles' trading cards that I threw away along with many other 60's items.
