Did our taxes today

Usually taxes in the US must be filed by April 15th. This year filing has been extended till May 17th. Went to get them done today. Due to covid they don't take walk-ins. It's by appointment only, which we didn't know. We didn't make one but decided to call them on our way there just in case. We were lucky that they had a cancellation and were able to fit us in. It cost us $230 to do the taxes. We usually paid under $200 and didn't expect it to be that much. Wonder why the prices went up...

Good that you were able to get your taxes done, Seems prices on many things keep going up.

My finances aren't complicated enough to require someone else to do them

It's good if you can do it yourself.

Because of the fact you have someone else do your taxes and get ripped off every year. Also, the longer you wait to file, the higher the price. If you file online (which I do) and do it at the start of tax season, it's going to cost next to nothing. I pay 40 bucks to file. Only because I don't want to fil my or my husband's personal information every year.

Really? I had no idea that the longer you wait to file the higher the price will be. I don't want to file taxes myself as I'd have no idea what I'd be doing. But what we paid is way too much.

@sharon6345 What do you mean by "card situation'?

@sharon6345 My friend does his own taxes and so he spends nothing to do them. I am not sure what he uses to do the taxes though.

@lovebuglena Maybe ours are too. I never checked. Just don't try myself to do the taxes on my own.

My friend did it himself as well. I am not comfortable doing my own taxes.

That's expensive. I do our taxes with TaxAct; and it costs around $70. I thought that was expensive. You probably paid more because it was last-minute too.

I asked my dad how much he paid for his taxes he did this week. He said $500. Our $230 sounds cheap compared to what he paid.

@LindaOHio Nope. Just two houses, one of which is paid off. The one I'm living in. He used to do the stock market but as far as I know not anymore.

@lovebuglena Holy cow! He must have a lot of investments or a business or something. That's really high.

Am glad I do not have to pay someone to do my tax payment. My taxes are deducted from our salary every month so when tax filing season our accountant will just prepare the return for us.

Your team was so lucky that someone cancelled their appointment. It really hard time when tax filing comes. Prices went maybe because of the global crisis were all experiencing.
