Did UFO Space Aliens visit my house the other day?

This...object..appeared on Kitty's outside bed near my front door the other day. Could it be some alien space craft? Actually, I think it's a raft designed by Astik (perhaps with his daddy's help). I brought one of my rafts to the pool the other day when I was playing "sink or float" with Astik (6) and Aditi (3). After that, I gave Astik some popsicle sticks and some wine corks, and lent him my wood glue, so he could design his own raft. I told him that the wood glue was water-soluble and wouldn't hold up unless I "reinforced" the raft later with crazy glue. Yesterday I did just that, but I turned it into yet another experiment. I used hard core Gorilla glue on "top" of the raft, and indoor/outdoor wood glue on the "bottom." We'll see which one holds up better. They don't know it, but I'm teaching them about scientific inquiry and hypothesis-testing. Buwaahaahaa! I am evil.

You know, if you teach them too young they could end up inventing all kinds of tricky things only a kid would enjoy ...... some might even be an adults nightmare

Some kids are an adult's nightmare anyway.

It's wonderful because you are not only teaching them scientific inquiry and hypothesis-testing but recycling and crafting too. All too often those two items are forgotten or shoved to the background by people. Instead of thinking outside the box, say when they need a funnel for something, they race to the store and buy one. They don't look at an empty plastic bottle as a possible funnel if you simply cut the bottom off and remove the lid. Or how about a wonderful cleaner? People buy high priced cleaners for scrubbing around the toilet or sink when baking soda would work just as well. A quarter cup with a half cup of vinegar makes a great toilet bowl cleaner. Keep encouraging them to think outside the box and to craft and do scientific inquiry and hypothesis testing. We may have a new generation of inventors.

I hope so. I enjoy working with kids before they get addicted to the internet.

I was just thinking about you the other day and wondering why I have not seen you. Glad you are back. When I was a kid, there was no internet. I was addicted to learning.

@akalinus I was addicted to playing sports with friends and watching the birds do their thing from my desk (which looked over our back yard).

It's a raft for the pool. Educationally, it's a "sink or float?" experiment.

Kids are naturally creative. I'll have to ask Astik if his daddy helped him.

No you aren’t evil. Evil would be giving them the raft and telling them to sail to Alaska on it.

Astik suffers from plumber butt. He would sink.

It's too bad we don't have someone like you in every daycare and classroom. Have a good week.
