Music You've Probably Never Heard #1

Being that I like to dabble in a bit of music creation myself, I am always interested in a wide range of musical styles, and musicians that sometimes happen to be left behind as the mainstream stuff usually tends to take center stage. Take Deerhunter and their song Breaker, which I think is a fun little song, and of course I do very much like the band. They are not totally indie of course, as they are a signed band. On Spotify their music gets almost 622,000 streams per month, so they do also enjoy quite a following. This band, and this song is probably one you have never heard before. Let me know what you think of them, and I hope you like their song.

That is good. It has that 80s college rock vibe to it. Thanks for posting this when you did: the piped-in music in the restaurant was playing that annoying-as-hell “Ho Hey” song.

I am trying to put together in my head the Hey Ho song. I am sure I have heard it. I am also sure I probably don't care for it. lol

Honestly, I didn't like it. I couldn't understand what they were saying. The background was so chaotic it looked like someone was high on something to put it together like that.

@porwest I've always tried to hear the words of the songs I listen to. It annoys me when I don't understand them. I listened to an Elton John song last week in connection with a book I'm working on, not Vendetta, and was surprised to find the words I thought he was singing, were nothing like what he sang. Artists are the same, no matter what genre. I've had to go to YouTube and listen with the words to know what's being said. There's one song about lightning. I figured that out when I saw the words, but I will always hear There's a bat room on the right. Not bad moon rising. Okay, you should know that song now. Christian artists are no different. I need to hear and know the words. It's me.

Fair enough. Certainly they call a lot of this stuff 'alternative music' for a reason. It's not everyone's cup of tea. I personally have always liked this sort of thing. As for the 'not being able to hear the words,' I guess for me I have always been more interested in the arrangements and the melodies of music than actual lyrics. But that's probably just a me thing, and the musician in me that hears the music overall and considers the lyrics just another instrument in a song. Oddly enough, I tend to still be able to hear the words quite clearly. But it could be that I listen to music in different ways being a musician as well.

I always get a kick out of the "I can hear the words" thing, because probably 99% of all music you can't make out the words clearly. For me I don't think what is being said is as important as the melody and the way that the entire piece fits together musically.

Not bad! What's with the video? I thought I was back in college and smoked too much weed, lol. Wonder if they took their name from the movie Deerhunter that starred Robert De Niro.

@porwest That's true on second thought. I've seen many MTV videos which had strange vibes to them. Probably to grab your attention in an artsy way. Ever watch Wang Chung's "Everybody Have Fun Tonight"

Not sure where they got their name actually. I guess I could look it up. As for videos, I tend to think a lot of music videos have a pyschadelic vibe of sorts to them. Not sure why that is.

Of their music, this is probably one of their most "normal" sounding songs most likely. lol
