Thank The Gods For A Tech Savvy Bank

I had another darknet experience last past week. First, my grandson went over to our neighborhood convenience store to get a drink late Tuesday/Wednesday morning. The store had trouble with their equipment and couldn't get my debit card to work. Finally, it did. (Later learned that trouble the store had was probably the black networking on hacking into their system) Wednesday I tried to buy something online using my debit card and it was declined. I called customer service and was told that someone had stolen my card# and was trying to sell it on the dark web. My card was closed out and the rep said they would send me a new one. I told her I use this card to pay 2/3 of my bills. Have to have it. She said she could put a rush on it and I would have it by Friday. I was content with that. So I spent the next 48 hours with no groceries and doing what I could with cash. Stress, and anxiety over not paying my bills on time. Then Friday rolls around and no card. I called customer service again. The rep said she didn't show any rush and no tracking info as yet. OMG! I had obligations. What was I going to do? I don't usually leave the house unless I have a doc appt. but I was told I could get a temporary card at the bank located in Albertson's just a couple blocks away. So I called a cab (can't walk that far due to arthritis in my hip)and got dressed. Ugh! What an ordeal just getting to the bank. Getting the card took about two minutes, then set waiting for another taxi to take me home. At one point the bank rep asked about what I was told by customer service. I told her and she frowned, saying that quite often they are very good about getting the fraud or whatever taken care of but fall short on getting a card actually set up to be sent out to the customer. She was sad, I was sad and mad. I hate to be told something, rely on it, and then learn that it isn't true. I am so glad that my bank was tech-savvy enough to catch this person trying to steal my card.

I've noticed that a lot of banks are stepping up their fraud game. I've had issues with cards over the years, including having blocks if I use it to fast. I have to space my bills out over the span of a few days if I want to prevent a flood of text messages and phone calls with alerts.

Me too. It is my only mode of paying other than by check or cash.

That is so scary and alarming. Sorry you went through this. On a different note did you know there is a FB group run by Thomas Spainhour called Refugees from Gather? He is tracking people through their FB and yours has not been active so he asked me about you.

was this a debit card or a credit card? I use credit cards for my bills then pay the Credit card off each month. I do not like debit cards they seems to have a little less coverage with something like this happens. I find the police do not do much on a stolen card wither so the people get away with it, and that is very frustrating.
