Get Ready. Inflation Is Only Just Beginning

We already know that inflation is taking hold, and taking hold BIG TIME. No secret there. All one needs to do is walk into any grocery or retail store, or pump a gallon of gas to know right away everything is costing more. And costing a LOT more. But this is just the tip of the iceberg, folks. Hyperinflation may actually be right around the corner as a new report was just released today that said that wholesale prices on goods and services in the "raw materials" of goods made has risen 6.6%. The highest gain in 11 years. Grab your bootstraps. We're about to lose a lot of money in the coming months, because of course all of these costs will be passed along to us. The consumer.

Will the prices ever go down or will they just keep on rising and rising?

@lovebuglena Grocery prices already have skyrocketed, and will probably rise faster than anything else other than gas.

For the most part, in the U.S., there are always things that can be done to slow things down a bit. But inflation is still a beast of its own. But many factors influence it. A lot of what is driving this inflation has to do with the threat of a higher taxes, the shutting down of the XL pipeline and more dependence on foreign oil, the push for green technology, and let's not forget all of those stimulus checks that were sent out which was literally printed money. There is a lot going on here, and I think for the foreseeable future inflation is not only here to stay. It is going to get much worse and fast.

Even the picture I posted along with this doesn't tell the whole story. There is a lot more than just the printing of money that is behind this. But it is what it is. We can only deal with it.

And to think that pre-Covid, the US had just beat CCP in a trade war, unemployment was at record lows across the board, we were energy independent and the economy was soaring. You are correct. We are in for a brutal stretch.

How correct this post and both my and your prediction turned out to be brutally correct. In fact, it probably turned out worse than I could have imagined a year ago when I wrote this post. Anyone still out there wanna listen to me? lol I can go back to many old posts where I predicted something and was told I was nuts that I could later point out turned out to be right. Oh well, all I can do is keep trying. lol

@porwest The sad part is that the anti-Trump crowd still doesn't realize that his policies were sound. Even in the face of this kind of turmoil, it's still all his fault. Biden is getting a free pass. I was called a lunatic, an idiot and many other names but after the dust settled, it turns out that I was the one thing that I was never called. Accurate.

@Vikingswest1 It's like Ronald Reagan once joked, "If you want to piss off a conservative, tell him a lie. If you want to piss off a liberal, tell him the truth." It may be a funny joke. But it is also completely true. lol

Gas still costs the same here as it did like a year ago. My Trump-loving father said "wait until gas is $7 a gallon this summer thanks to Biden" a few months ago. Um. Nope. Hasn't changed at all.

@porwest I absolutely don't remember it anywhere close to $2 last year. It has been in the upper $2s for quite awhile now. You are right. I don't pay much attention to gas prices. I don't have to fill up my little go-kart more often than every 3 weeks. I have to use super/premium and they never display THAT price. I just give them my debit card and let them go wild with it for 10 gallons. It was only after my dad made that comment that I started looking at gas prices as I passed gas stations.

I don't think you have paid much attention to gas prices. I just looked at a historical chart for New Jersey. In June of 2020 the average price for a gallon of gas was $2.08. In June of 2021 in New Jersey the average price for a gallon of gas is $3.05. That is an increase of 46.63%. What do you mean no change?

It is awful going to the supermarket nowadays, everything costs a lot more. Sooner we won't have money to pay for our basic things.

I know. My husband told me Pizza Hut will have to raise prices by September because of having to give people raises and new hires starting at 13/hour. And, that's not the half of it. You still have people cheeting the system to stay on unemployment.

Hopefully the unemployment offerings are coming to a head. Especially since we are in a situation where employers are literally begging for workers. My thinking is that if there is a glut of open jobs out there waiting to be filled, there is no need to extend a safety net. But, we will see. As for Pizza Hut's situation, this is a situation affecting many employers. It's not just the push for the $15 minimum wage driving this. It's the fact that with the unemployment benefits still out there employers are forced to make more enticing offerings to lure in workers. But yes...someone has to pay for that, and it won't be the business. It will be the customers. On top of that, businesses are fully anticipating higher taxes, so that is driving some of this as well. And of course with fuel costs rising, that makes getting all the goods to the end user more expensive too. Lots of things driving this inflation.

There's an easy fix to that...just stop consuming! haha We're all going to have to make some tough choices in the near future with our discretionary spending, because there will be a lot less of it to go around. I just read in our local newspaper today that our local utility is going to raise electric rates by 7% next year. Yep, we're in for a crazy ride.

lol. On the first comment. Yeah. Simple, easy peasy lemon squeezie. I just wish people understood better all the things that influence this that seem like good ideas, but turn out to bite us in the butt big time in the end. It is what it is. All we can do is deal with it the best we can. But it's going to get quite a lot more painful in the very near term. Crazy ride is right.

We've already been paying more for groceries and antiseptic wipes, etc. for over a year. It's just a continuation of the trend that started right around the time that COVID-19 took hold.

Being one who watches prices very closely, I disagree. There was a runup on certain items. But most other things held down their price. There are myriad things driving this current inflation. I also look at the official measure of inflation, and it was nearly stagnant for the past 8-10 years. The inflation we are seeing now is the highest in 11 years.
