Hubby is supposed to drink an Ensure+ drink twice a day. It is a prescription from the VA. He did not tell me soon enough to refill the prescription, but he wants to keep it up because he has gained back a lot of his weight. It is a cool meal choice in the heat. He does eat other things with it. I have lots of staples on hand, including powdered eggs. The senior center or someone gives it to my sister and she will not use them for anything. She gives them to me. I found a recipe for egg nog made with powdered eggs. It has substitutions, such as using water and powdered milk. Because the goal is to continue supporting Bob's weight, I use whole milk instead of water. I go ahead and use the milk powder as well. So, I am substituting home made egg nog for the nutritional shake and I am substituting whole milk for water to keep the nutrition high for Bob. He likes it really well and we are all set until his Ensure+ comes in the mail.
