Bulky Waste is Collected

At last, our Sperrmüll is collected. Sperrmüll is a German word for a bulky waste like furniture of any kind, carpets, bathtubs, bicycles and more. I was so busy yesterday afternoon getting rid of the furniture and bicycle and put them outside our flat. Some of them were used on our balcony. So, it was a lot of work for me organising the balcony, cleaning it, too. Of course my hubby and son helped me. My 30 years old bike was included in the bulky waste collection but it didn’t take long after we had put it outside. I saw a man about 60+ years old with a huge white van from our window kitchen, put my pink bicycle in it. My bike was still in good shape and was seldom used. The last time I used it was, when I was biking with my sister in the Netherlands going to the beach. I had nice moments with that bike. I had to get rid of it as I am no longer biking here in Germany. Anyway, those things are gone now as I heard the Sperrmüll truck collected them. I was supposed to sleep long as I was so tired but the sound of the truck coming from my open window was loud. Have you get rid of something bulky this last few days? What was it? Thank you for reading and have a nice Wednesday.

We got rid of a whole heap of cardboard which had our Ikea furniture packed in it. We were able to take it to a collection place and it cost us nothing to unload it.

We have 2 huge containers for cardboard, papers and magazines for recycling outside our building which is collected every 2 weeks. Thank you @JudyEv

Did you have to take the cardboard apart first?

@thelme55 That's great. That would be very handy. We have a decent sized Sulo bin for recycling and it gets emptied weekly.

I see. I don’t trust myself to bike again here. Nowadays, walking is better for me than biking. Thank you @marlina.

I often see people collecting what people place outside for the bulk waste. I am glad if someone has a use for what I throw.

@thelme55 ah that is the exact same for us. Sometimes in the spring and fall we have to wait 2-3 weeks because they have so many bulk items to pick up!

I got my bedroom set when I was living in Germany, because someone put it out on the street. I couldn’t believe they were throwing it out. I’ve had it nearly 40 years. The bed, two marble topped end tables and mirrored dresser to match and a large wardrobe with oval mirror on it. I think it’s beautiful, but I guess they didn’t like it.

We did that two years ago when we moved into this house. We haven't got anything else large that needs to be thrown out since then.

They discontinued the bi-annual collection of large items. Now you have to haul them to a collection site. It used to be fun to watch so many people stopping to see what someone had thrown out and how many people would load someone's castoffs into their car or truck.

That is sad. That would be a lot of work for you to bring the things to the collection site. Yes, I have seen that before, too a few years ago. Thank you @LindaOHio. Have anime Wednesday.

During the night before the Sperrmüll date there are always people roaming the streets looking for things that can be used again and maybe sold. They're welcome to do this as far as I am concerned.

We do occasionally. We have a Town Council who have to be informed so that they act on it than leave them lying around outside our flats.

We live inside the city limits so we can put stuff like that out and they come around 1-2 times a week and pick it up. Last fall we got rid of an old microwave oven, a chest and an old bike. Like you, someone stopped and put the bike in their truck before the city trucks came and got it.
