Blowing away the cobwebs

People talk about getting out in the fresh air to ‘blow away the cobwebs’ - I can’t help thinking those people don’t have much experience of the real thing. Since I haven’t been using my car all that much, several creatures have set up home on and around it, including a spider that lives behind the wing mirror. It built this cobweb and I wondered if it would survive an outing - but it sure did! After quite a long 60 mph drive it’s still here and just looking slightly wind-blown. I've had a few of those spiders using my car as a home myself. Mirrors are a favorite spot. It's like taking a passenger on a ride, lol.

The cobwebs are a lot stronger than we think, surely a little air does not blow them away.

Obviously not - nor even rather a lot of air!

@Fleura We have to take a broom and sweep the cobwebs to get rid of them.

I drove for a few kilometers when I saw a lizard on my mirror. No, it's not blown away. Perfectly attached all the way there.

That would be a surprise! We don't have many lizards here, and the ones we get are fairly secretive.

That sort of made me laugh imagining that spider holding on and being windblown,

Oh the spider is fine, it just tucks in behind the glass as there's a space there because the mirror itself is movable.

My sister calls such cobwebs 'curtains'. My spider has survived many a trip as has his web.

The spider just tucks in behind the mirror so is quite safe there.

At first glance it looks like a broken glass

@fleura Even a strong blast from a hose fails to dislodge a cobweb.

Glad you went outside and enjoyed the ride. I heard this term for the first time but thanks for explaining well
