Do cats have bad dreams? Kitty has been unusually "needy" this morning.

Kitty woke me up this morning by jumping on my bed and pawing my face. She doesn't usually do that. We had a major purr fest, and then she lay down next to me. But she was still restless and demanded I pet her to sleep. When I got out of bed, she followed me around the house. I fed her and gave her a couple more purr fests, but she continued to follow me around, giving me deep looks that I'm not sure how to interpret. Now she's asleep at my feet. Do cats have bad dreams? They look so satisfied when they're asleep. Could she have dreamed that the Big Blue Monster gobbled me up?

Something must have happened that scared her and she chose you for comfort, it's actually a kitty compliment.

I wonder what scared her.

Interesting, I often wondered myself. I looked it up and yes cats do dream, usually about their favorite things including you. Also they do have nightmares occasionally. It makes sense, cats spend a great amount of time sleeping.

Kitty spends most of her free time sleeping.

It seems that animals dream and they can have nightmares too.

@TheHorse I have read articles from vets specialized in animals psychology. Some abused animals move their legs and are agitated during their sleep because they dream to escape from the abusers. Poor things!

Maybe she was worried that the Big Blue Monster (it still scares her) would get me.

I think kitty might have had a bad dream and wanted some reassurance that all is well with the world.

We've had some good snuggle time recently. And I've given her wet food every day in the afternoons. I hope she knows I'm not going to abandon her.

I believe that they do have bad dreams and other things that stress them out. Henry comes to me for hugs at least once or twice a day upon waking up from a nap.

Kitty comes by my desk and arches her back when I haven't paid her enough attention.

@TheHorse Henry awakened me this morning by touching my face with his paw and chewing on my hair.

Kitty meows to let me know she wants something. But I can't always tell what she wants.

I just put some extra dry food in her inside bowl to reassure her that "everything is OK." She is asleep in a shady spot in front of my door right now.

Cats do have fears and possibly bad dreams. I know that Chilly is extra lovable and clingy after a thunderstorm, especially if that storm sends him under the bed for a time.

We had a "normal" night here. No thunder storms or earthquakes. She was one "needy" cat all day today.

I think so do. If people do, why shouldn't other animals.

She seems more "chill" this afternoon. Still checking in a lot, though.

Do cats love? I'm more used to dogs and horses. They show their appreciation in more obvious ways.

@TheHorse Dogs are my favorite. They show love and smile and are always happy to see you. The perfect pet.

In my opinion they just do like that sometimes. Cats are very sensitive and they could easily shift our moods.

Maybe it's just because I've been working a lot away from the house recently. She grew used to me being around here during Covid.
