A $7 cappuccino

Went to a small Italian restaurant for Saturday dinner. The place was cozy and intimate. Felt homey. We got a salad, two appetizers (mozzarella kisses and ricotta stuffed eggplant), and one main course (chicken topped with filet mignon and mozzarella in a sauce served with a side of broccoli and potato croquets). We shared everything. The food was delicious, though the salad was too big and the mozzarella appetizer was a bit rubbery in texture. We could not finish the main course, so took it home.
When it came time for dessert, we ordered a tiramisu and a cappuccino. The tiramisu was delicious. The cappuccino was not. Actually, it wasn't even a cappuccino. There was no foam. Instead, there was a huge dollop of whipped cream in it. First time seeing whipped cream in a "cappuccino." I was not a fan. When we got the bill I noticed that it cost $7. Definitely not worth that much money. I would have never gotten it had I know it would cost that much.

Sorry that it was a disappointment for the kind of money you paid. Better to check the rate card before ordering.
But glad that overall you enjoyed the food and setting there.

There was no menu for hot beverages. I did not think to ask how much it would cost as we were not in an upscale place.

@lovebuglena The most I paid a cappuccino was at the Florian in Venice (Italy) and it was around $ 7, but it was a luxury hotel and the cappuccino really good. The common price for a cappuccino in Italy is from $1.5 to $ 2 and in most bars it is really good... here it costs the double and it is never very good.

I had an $8 cappuccino once. Had no idea it was going to cost that much. But at least it was a real cappuccino and was delicious.

@LadyDuck Here it seems it's usually either $4.xx or $5.xx if in a restaurant. Unless it's higher.

Hate it when the food is expensive and doesn't live up to expectations.

Another sneaky way for restaurants to make extra cash at the customer's expense.

I hate that as well. And there was no menu for hot beverages, so I had no idea how much it would cost when I ordered it. I will say that I did not expect it to cost that much, A big disappointment for $7.

$7 for a cappuccino would be about what you'd pay at Starbucks if you ordered one there.
You should have told them the cappuccino was awful and that you would like them to take it off the bill.

@lovebuglena Sometimes, it's worth spending a little extra money on an indulgence.

@moffittjc Yes but it better be worth it in terms of taste and quality.

I think even at Starbucks it would not cost that much. I once paid $8 for a cappuccino but it was at a $$$$ restaurant. I had no idea it would cost that much or I wouldn't have ordered it. On the plus side, it was really good. So it wasn't a waste of $8 though technically the $8 could've gone elsewhere.

I'm sorry you were disappointed. $7 is a lot for a cappuccino.

It really is, especially when what you get is not really a cappuccino. I would say it was more like a latte, though a latte has some foam and this one didn't seem to have any at all. Unless it did and the whipped cream made it disappear.

I would not pay that much either if I knew ahead of time how much it would cost.

There was no hot beverages menu, so I could not know the price. I could have asked the waitress how much it costs but I did not think it would cost that much as we were not in a very expensive restaurant.

Sorry to know about the bad experience. Certainly you should avoid the food and drink which was not as per your expectations

If I ever go back there again, I will not order the things I did not like.

Yes, I did not expect to spend that much on a cappuccino. I would not have gotten it had I known it would be that expensive. The food was good though.
