Vin’s sister and husband visited us yesterday. They were keen to see our new home. They brought a house-warming gift – a potted Pimelea physodes, better known as the Qualup bell. It is native to the south coast of Western Australia, in the Ravensthorpe area where we used to live.
However, it isn’t easy to grow so I don’t have high hopes of this one lasting for too long but I’ll do my best to keep it alive. I wrote about it in 2018. You can read more about it here:
The photo is from that discussion. I took a photo of my plant but this older photo gives you a better idea of how pretty it is. The flowers on mine are still mostly green rather than red.
While we were in the Ravensthorpe/Hopetoun area on the weekend we went into the Fitzgerald River National Park and were lucky enough to find a number of Qualup...

@LadyDuck My mother managed to grow a banana plant and a boab, both of which should not have grown in the climate at her house. They need hotter temperatures really. The banana was in a corner and she put tin foil on the two walls to try to make it hot enough for the plant.

@LindaOHio I'd sing to it if I thought that would keep it alive!

if it arrived at my house, its life span would be 10, 12 days total. we kill plants here. not on purpose, we just do.

@JudyEv we've told caring and wonderful friends, to take the gift of plants home with them. Sorry we always say but if it stays here it will die.

Hopefully it stays alive. That reminds me I need to check on that orchid. It has been so hot I am sure it needs a drink. I will put some ice cubes on it. Going to a housewarming this weekend....am bringing a coffee grinder as my gift.
