Can you see the golf balls?

We’ve had a lazy day today and haven’t done much at all. However, we did attach golf balls to tape and hung them from the top of the garage. If you’re wondering why, it’s so that we know when the car is sufficiently in the garage that the roller door won’t hit it. When the ball touches the windscreen, we know it’s time to hit the brake. We could have put a piece of timber on the floor but, if we need to use the garage to make something, I was worried that we’d be tripping on the wood. I think the balls are a better idea. If we keep hitting our heads on them, we can always hitch them up out of the way. We also lined a few more shelves in the kitchen. We’ve now done most of them. I’m not sure what’s on the agenda for tomorrow. I need to make a chocolate slice so perhaps that’s a ‘tomorrow’ job.

This is a good idea, at least you know when it is the time to hit the brake.

@JudyEv You are so right, my husband complains all the time of how modern cars are built.

With modern cars, the front slopes off and it's hard to know when you are close to something.

That's a good option and will be useful for you

That's a good idea. I would usually turn on the light if I drive through narrow pathway. Brighter light mean I'm close to the wall.

That is brilliant! That would have been great for when I used to live with my parents . . . I was never sure if I was getting too close to the back wall. My dad put that big thick piece of wood on the floor - I often hit it .

@JudyEv My dad didn't even bolt it to the floor - I often scooted it over with the car .

The wood works well but I thought something bolted to the floor would just be a nuisance at other times.

There are two white lines going from the ceiling to the windows of the cars. The white is white tape and at the lower end is a golf ball.

I haven't heard of anyone doing it with golf balls, usually we've used tennis balls in the past since they won't dent if they drop off.

we didn't have any tennis balls and were too impatient to wait till we went shopping to buy any. Hopefully these won't fall off. They're attached with screws.

I don't see anything wrong with that idea. It keeps the floor clear and makes sure you won't dent a vehicle.

That's pretty much the idea. You're coming in gently anyway so the golf ball isn't going to hurt the windscreen.

@JudyEv It should just bounce off, even if you bump it pretty hard.

@DaddyEvil It would need a really good whack before it would break the windscreen.

@wolfgirl569 There is just enough 'apron' in front of the garage if we can't fit them in but we'd prefer to keep them out of the weather.

If we don't park the big car exactly right, we can only get round the front or the back. It's pretty tight.

When we moved here we found the previous owners had hung a plastic bottle cap on some string for the same purpose. However my partner has now taken over more than half the garage as his 'home gym', so what with that and a table tennis table, there's no room for an actual car!

I can understand that. It's only the last two days that we've been able to get both cars in the garage. Once they're in, there is virtually no room for anything else.

Balls hanging from the ceiling are good. We put a piece of black tape on the freezer next to the car to gauge where to park..

@allknowing Actually I didn't 'definitely know' as I've been surprised before about how familiar some terms are in other countries. KISS stands for Keep It Simple Stupid so I'm saying Vin and I go for simple solutions where we can.

@JudyEv Well yes, a tennis ball would probably work better, but if the golf balls work for you, then that is just as well too.

@JudyEv - We have done the same thing in the past, but used tennis balls. You are right about tripping over a piece of timber. We had a plastic car stop that we had on the garage floor for a while, but we constantly tripped over it. I think the balls from the ceiling are a much better idea!

Good idea. I hope winter is mild. Summer right now pleasant with northeast breezes. Need more night rain and rain in dry spots of islands.
