When we stayed with our son and his wife in Ireland, we joined his church choir for the period we were there. He was preparing the choir for a Grade 2 Church Choir so we sat for the examination too, along with the rest of the members. I’m proud to say we are now qualified Grade 2 choristers. Next stop Vienna Boys’ Choir! One of the warm-ups we did was a tongue twister. You started on a highish note then, as you sang, dropped down note by note for an octave (eight notes). The words were: If you want to toboggan First buy a toboggan But don’t buy too big a toboggan Too big a toboggan Is not the toboggan To buy to begin to toboggan When we’d run through this a few times, I turned to the lady next to me and said ‘I’m having trouble remembering the words’. Her reply was ‘I do too. I just say ‘toboggan, toboggan’ all the way. Nobody knows the difference’. It sounded a very Irish reply to me. The photo is of the choir. Our son is on the right.
