We are certified choristers - Grade Two

When we stayed with our son and his wife in Ireland, we joined his church choir for the period we were there. He was preparing the choir for a Grade 2 Church Choir so we sat for the examination too, along with the rest of the members. I’m proud to say we are now qualified Grade 2 choristers. Next stop Vienna Boys’ Choir! One of the warm-ups we did was a tongue twister. You started on a highish note then, as you sang, dropped down note by note for an octave (eight notes). The words were: If you want to toboggan First buy a toboggan But don’t buy too big a toboggan Too big a toboggan Is not the toboggan To buy to begin to toboggan When we’d run through this a few times, I turned to the lady next to me and said ‘I’m having trouble remembering the words’. Her reply was ‘I do too. I just say ‘toboggan, toboggan’ all the way. Nobody knows the difference’. It sounded a very Irish reply to me. The photo is of the choir. Our son is on the right. I’m there but don’t look for long hair.

I would have a hard time remembering the lyrics as well. I'd have to read them off a paper. That's pretty funny the woman next to you just says tobaggon the whole time. You are I think the most tan member .

I'm third from the right, middle row. I thought it was very funny. I was getting upset with myself for not being able to do it but my neighbour had the right idea. lol

I'm in the second row, third from the right. I didn't realise Vince isn't in this photo. He must have taken it. He often misses out of being in photos because of that.

@JudyEv I meant in front of the lady with the white hair..That is you right? I would call that the second row.

@snowy22315 Yes, that's me. They were a lovely bunch of people. The one that just said 'toboggan toboggan' is third lady from the left, back row.

Your story about the lady just saying toboggan made me laugh. I remember when the Mass was in Latin and I remember the "invented" lyrics of Latin songs I heard in Church, some were too funny.

@LadyDuck It would have to be very boring if you didn't understand what was being said.

There is a joke about that too - probably several - about someone taking up the collection and the priest saying 'two bob I beat you on the dominoes'. I don't remember any more of it. lol

We had to do it quite fast too which made it even harder.

@JudyEv It's challenging for me to memorize it and say it slowly. Saying it fast would be a bouncer.

Are you having trouble with the photo? That's a funny story! I can totally understand not being able to remember the lines, though.

Thanks for letting me know. I accidentally lodged it twice when it came up with an error message. I deleted one but forgot to check that the photo was on the other. Duh

@JudyEv You're welcome. I've seen that happen with several discussions lately. (I thought it was something with my computer when it happened to me but now that I've seen others having that type problem I know it's a glitch, sometimes, with myLot. And you're very easy to pick out in the photo. You look lovely.

I found you. At first, I was looking for long hair. Then I looked for your smile. Nice tongue twister.

Very nice photo. I was in the choir in elementary school. I don't know how as I have a terrible voice now.
