August, a new months starts, today is our Swiss National Day today.
July has not been a hot summer month for us. We experienced the worst storms recorded since 1951, let's hope for a better August.
Tuesday August 17, is Black Cat Day, the beginning of the "Cat Nights".
According to an old Gaelic legend, a witch was allowed turn into a cat, for no more than eight times.
The 9th time the witch cannot regain her human appearance and remains a cat forever.
From this legend, the saying "cats have nine lives".
Do not forget, from August 11 to August 13 is the best time for star gazing.
How are you going to spend this first day of August?

Happy Holiday! 
I would like to spend my day in bed... I tried to do that yesterday but Pretty wouldn't let me. *sigh* She insisted I take her shopping... but we forgot half the stuff we meant to buy so I suspect she'll make me take her again.

@LadyDuck You're welcome... In a storm, it isn't necessary to hang out a flag. It would be ragged in no time from the winds.
I'd love to go back to sleep but I'm going to have to get up... I'm hungry.

@DaddyEvil In fact I am noticing one on a balcony already half ripped off.
You need a brunch first and then you go back to sleep. I quickly went out to tie the tomatoes to the stakes before the wind breaks the plants.

Good story about cats nine lives ..never heard about it..interesting though..
August 11 to August 13 is the best time for star gazing..wow i will remember to check ..does this apply world wide ?

@LadyDuck You`re welcome. It is kind of sad but it is much safer like that. It is really not good to have big celebration nowadays.

I didn't know that legend. That is interesting. I went to a second hand store this afternoon, but aside from that I don't have many plans today. I hope we will be able to spend some time outside. Yesterday it rained so much, and it was impossible to do any work outside.

I have been doing exciting things this first day of August: my first corona test. Just in case I need it for the plane tomorrow. I sneezed so loudly I scared the poor person taking the test ...
Star gazing sounds nice, I'd like to see the Milky Way. Might wait til September, it's still very light in August.

@LadyDuck I will scare someone again on Thursday, I keep sneezing just because of the mask so the test will definitely make me sneeze again.
I know where I should go, I have to find somewhere dark and facing south-east. I usually have the best views north - West, but no Milky Way in that direction

Oh my, I know that the Corona test is a bit annoying, I had one 10 days ago. Your revenge was to scare the person taking the test.
I have to find a darker place to see the Milky Way, too much light pollution in all this area now.

The Cat Nights sounds interesting. We have some festivals like Raksha Bandhan and Janmasthami (Birth day of Lord Krishna) in August.
15th August is a big day for us - Independence Day for India!
And we are also having a pickup in rains here.

July was hot and humid, hopefully as we lose daylight in the month of august (nearly 40 minutes of daylight lost in the 31 days of the month)!!!!
i am going to tell my wife it is swiss national day - time for chocolate to celebrate!!!!

@asianlady I love cats. My neighbors have a ginger cat who is the sweetest cat I ever met. I adopted a "tuxedo", left behind by a family who moved to an apartment.

July has really been awful for us, but I am glad you enjoyed your camping holidays.
I like black cats, I like all cats, they are lovely animals.
I always miss the August star showers, I forget that I have to go out and look at the sky, not at the TV.
I am trying to do the same today, get a good start on myLot.

@paigea We had a very bad storm the past Monday, many roads were flooded and covered with mud and debris, some houses are still covered with mud. They said that the last time we had so much rain was in 1951, the year I was born.
The garden is fine, I cleaned after the storm, the lawn is overgrown but too wet to be mowed.
