We locked ourselves out

The photo has nothing to do with the post but shows some fungi which is common in our woodlands. In our village, one lady brings back free bread from her work at a charity. Last night, we walked to her unit to get some bread but we’d left it a bit late and there was no-one around so we started walking home. However, we got caught in a shower and, despite hiding in porches and against walls on our way home, we still got quite wet. Then – when we go to the door, we had locked ourselves out! Being new, there is no way to get into these houses without breaking a window. Luckily, we had given Vince’s brother a key and he was able to drive down with it. While we waited, we stayed with our friends who live in the same village. A bonus was that we were able to take our saviour out to a Korean restaurant for a nice meal. A week or two ago, we talked about hiding a key outside but that is the first job on the list for today. Have you ever locked yourself out? And how did you get back in?

I once did when I was staying somewhere else with my bachelor friends. I waited for another of my friend with a duplicate key. In between, I wandered in a local market and then went to meet some friends in between as well.

Yes, when I forgot the key inside and locked the door through the button inside the door. Then we had to break ventilator to get in and open the door.

It can be quite a problem to get in sometimes. We've had to go through a window once or twice.

@JudyEv We know that we can trust our neighbor, he is a policeman and he has a locked cabinet where he keeps his pistol and his documents, our key is safe there. There are many gadgets to hide a key outside your house, we never felt safe doing this.

That's a very good idea. I suppose we could do that too but we've now found a good place to hide a spare key.

@LadyDuck Vince didn't feel safe with some of the gadgets either but we are both happy with this solution.

I'm glad you gave Vince's brother a key so you could get back in. Yes, I did. I needed to call the fire department as there was no way in except the bathroom window as it turned out. The firemen came in protective gear because my dog didn't like anyone in uniform. He was very good in this instance and I was thankful to get into the house and for my dog being good.

@JudyEv That one was. I temporarily lost my keys on a Sunday morning and called the maintenance man to let me in. I found them later between the seats in my car.

@just4him That's quite a common spot for things to get hidden. It can be difficult to get your hand down between the seats.

I locked myself out several times when I was still working. I just had to wait for my husband who generally got home about 2-3 hours later than I did. I remember once it was in the middle of winter and it was cold outside. I am glad you had a backup key! That saved you from breaking a window, win!!

@snowy22315 Our main door opens onto the village internal streets and no-one here is likely to break in so we often go off for a short period and don't lock up. However, this time somehow we did!

All is well now and that meal must have tasted great! We too had that experience once but we got help from the electrician who climbed up and luckily our terrace door was open. We had gone out and we had guests. We always hide a key but the maid while cleaning the window had dropped it.

We have had to go through windows before today too but none of these windows will open from the outside. Even the fly screens are security ones.

Glad things turned out ok! Yes, I have locked myself out of my apt home. Mom let me in before she passed. Then, after she passed, my resident manager or her Son, who helps her, a widow.

we have done that (locked ourselves out) a few times. I actually swatched to keypad entry (you punch in 6 numbers and the door opens.) The outdoors, walking and getting soaked - yeah happens to me often sadly!

We hid in doorways a couple of times on our way back to the house. When you walk down the internal streets here, all the front door come on in turn as you go by. lol

A lot of the photos I use have little or nothing to do with my posts, I think. :D Oh, yes, I've locked myself out several times back at my house. Most of the time I had to go next door to the neighbors, who had one of our spare keys. We also had a key hidden in the backyard.

Sorry you locked yourselves out, easy to do. When we first bought our home Mike had extra house and car keys made and we have them hidden in our basement, just in case. Our basement doesn't have stairs to get into the home, but we can get into our basement when we need to. Interesting fungi.
