yesterday's food culls from work: pasta and sauce!

The grocery department at work is resetting the pasta area in the store and discontinuing some brands, so those items (in addition to some packages that were close to their sell-by date) were placed in the donations area for the employees to take home. I brought home 2 boxes of pappardelle pasta, 2 boxes of lasagna noodles, one package of whole wheat orzo, 2 boxes of farfalline (tiny butterfly pasta that I mostly just use in soup), one package of bucatini, 2 smallish jars of tomato basil pasta sauce, one jar of marinara, and a jar of roasted garlic marinara. Also, not shown in the photo are the 2 packages of prosciutto and 2 blocks of Tillamook extra-sharp cheddar that I got from the refrigerated culls area. It's funny, just the previous day I was looking through my pantry and saying that I needed to get more pasta soon -- and the universe heard me! I wasn't at all surprised to see several boxes of chickpea pasta in the culls area. Remember the food shortages last year at the beginning of the lockdowns? Our pasta shelves were pretty empty -- except for the chickpea pasta. Nobody wanted those, not even during a pandemic. I didn't even take any to try for free! Do you find these sorts of posts interesting? Should I keep posting about what I didn't have to buy? Let me know.

You got enough to last for some time. And yes, keep saying what you need loud, Universe might have ears.

I did not even considered buying lentils or chickpea pasta, the real thing or nothing. Rummo is an excellent brand, I never liked De Cecco a lot, it's not bad, but just not really good. Yes, I want to know.

@spiderdust I like Garofalo, this brand is available here in Switzerland, I do not need to cross the border and buy in Italy.

@TheSojourner Garofalo is the one I buy more often as it is available also locally. I bought bucatini Rummo last Sunday in Italy. I am planning an Amatriciana and spaghetti are not the best for this sauce.

The Rummo brand pasta is definitely better quality pasta than the De Cecco, although I agree that the De Cecco isn't bad. It's a better quality brand than some of our store-brand pasta at least.

Since I've been eating at your house so often lately, I like to know what I might be getting... And yeah, we tried the chickpea pasta... uhh... yuck! We threw it out.

@DaddyEvil I don't know anyone who wants that stuff. I'll bet I'll see it still there when I go to work tomorrow. I suppose it would be fine for an art project.

I am interested in what kind of food other people likes. I might see something I might want to try.

I forgot that there were also 5 packets for alfredo sauce mix that didn't end up in the photo. We're set on pasta dinners and soup noodles for a while!
