The Tattoo Goes Live!

Thank you, Dear Readers, for waiting patiently through my series of posts about designing a tattoo for my friend, who commissioned a tree of life design to get as a tattoo. He got it and sent me this picture showing it "live".
I know some of you were wondering how it would look and where on his body it would go. As you can see from the photo, it is covering his shoulder and upper arm, and it is quite large (he is facing toward the left side of the photo). He had given me the dimensions of 7 inches by 11 inches, and I did the artwork on a 9" x 12" bristol board so that it was full-sized.
The tattoo artist did a good job! There isn't any background color, as I'd provided in my sketch, but I guess there was only so much my friend could take, heh heh. The green leaves and golden-brown color of the bark are very good matches to my suggested colors, though. This tattoo had so many tiny details, it must have taken a long time. I feel very honored that he was willing to spend the time, money, and, let's face it--low-grade physical torture--to get my design permanently added to his body!

Yes, the colors look good with his skin tone. A blue sky would have blended kind of unnaturally, I think. I just figured it would be nice for him to see the options.

@AliCanary I agree and I think it took a lot of time.

Thank you! Although I guess maybe the tattooist should be thanking you.

I think that's true. I know that small amounts of pain do cause an endorphin rush - that's why some people are into BDSM, and also (sadly) why some people cut their skin. I wish that were a side effect of mosquito bites--it would make them a bit more tolerable!

Looks great although I would have wanted more leaves. If I were to have a similar tattoo, I'd have it in my stomach area up halfway to my chest.

It's a very nice tattoo... and I'm sure he enjoyed the pain of having it added to his arm.

Thanks! I meant that instead of being a picture, it was now on a live person, so it was more "out in the world", I guess. In its finished form.

I think it turned out fantastic! He is lucky that he chose you to do the drawing.
