No cooking today

I normally cook every day except Sunday. I like cooking but not so much having to do it seven days a week. My solution is to do enough food for two days on Saturday. Today we have beef and mushroom casserole which we had yesterday too. My husband calls it 'left overs' - but that is not exactly right as it gives a bad impression of something not enjoyed and so left uneaten. Whereas this is more like 'second helpings'. I think it is tastier second time around and I should like to think of a name I can give it that makes the Sunday meal sound more appetizing. I shall cook some apples to add to yoghourt for desert and that will be the end of my time in the kitchen today.

I'm like you.. I don't like cooking everyday..I normally cook dishes that tastes better after two or three days..like stews or casseroles.. Lasagna for example, tastes better eaten the following day..Vindaloo and other curry dishes taste better after two or three days in the fridge.. Some can keep in the freezer for a week or two.. there are better things to do than spending time in the kitchen..

A sister in Oz! I shall remember your examples of lasagna and curry dishes. I have never frozen a curry so that may be on the menu next weekend.

I hope I can do it like you, but my kids and husband get bored, so I need to change menu everyday (or simply just buy) ??

the other option is to make a double amount and freeze half of it. You could then produce it a week or two later and they would be none the wiser!

As it is Sunday we decided to have "Brunch", I made waffles that I served with maple syrup, yogurt with berries, grapes and cheese.

I would have enjoyed that Anna. Waffles would be out as my husband has to avoid sugar. The rest are usually on the menu for supper. We tend to have breakfast at different times so it would be hard to organize a Brunch.

@LadyDuck Thanks Anna, I shall hear that in mind. Your early start is too early for us....You must go to bed earlier than we do....

@41CombedaleRoad You can make waffles with a sugar substitute. I use sugar because we both have no problems. We always have breakfast together at 5:30 in the morning, on Sundays we only have coffee and Brunch around 11 AM.

Dinner sounds good. I always try to cook extra when making a meal. The leftovers make life a little easier. Right now there is a pot roast cooking in my crockpot.

I use my crockpot often. It was a late discovery. In England we call it a slow cooker and I was never interested in the sound of that. Then I met a lot of American friends enthusing about their crock pot. So I asked what it was! Slow cooker. An invaluable asset to my kitchen.

Sundays were always a big meal back home. Homemade pasta and a big salad right out of the garden. Now I am away from home and Sundays are not the same.

Americans know how to cook, I wouldn't even imagine trying to make homemade pasta. I should grow more veges though. I

My husband also enjoys apples and yogurt. I like the idea of "second helpings" and agree that the flavors are better, mellowed in together the second time around.

I find it easier for me (as a housewife) to cook more in the morning so that I wouldn’t have to cook for lunch. Dinner is another story

It does get a bit tedious having to come up ideas for meals day after day. I love leftovers and always think they have more taste second time around.
