freebies from work on Labor Day

Remember the days when Labor Day meant that workers had a day off to enjoy with their families, and it wasn't a day where the "essential workers" had to work because the privileged with a 3-day weekend wanted to go shopping? Yeah, me either, although I've heard that it happened. At least today was a holiday pay day, so I earned twice as much money working my usual number of hours. There weren't many things in the culls area when I clocked in this morning, but quite a few things were there when it was time for me to leave! I got a bottle of Health-Ade Plus kombucha (which I just realized I forgot to put in the photo), 2 boxes of French eclairs, a bottle of mango cashewmilk drinkable yogurt to try, a container of chocolate chip muffins (just the right size for lunchbox treats), a pound of salted butter, 3 cartons of Blue Bottle unsweetened café au lait, and a bakery box full of assorted cookies. Most of these items will be lunchbox treats, and I'll enjoy those iced coffees in the mornings. I've never tried this brand of butter before and hopefully it tastes just like regular salted butter. It says it's made from "whey cream", so I'm crossing fingers that it's not weird. I also purchased some hot dog buns today (to go with those free hot dogs I got a few days ago), but I suspect that buns will end up in the culls area by the end of the week (unless they happen to sell out today due to the holiday). I'll bet there will be pies then too! What does your Monday look like today?

Today was extremely uneventful. I guess that is better than the alternative.

I took Pretty shopping this morning and then helped put away groceries when we got home. A friend stopped by that I haven't seen in two years, so we sat out on the front porch and visited for about an hour. It was nice catching up with him. (He just turned 40. I teased him a bit because he's lost most of his hair since I last talked with him... after he teased me because I haven't been to a hair salon since Covid started... I thought it only fair. I DID offer to let him have some of my long hair... but he was afraid it was too pretty to cut now. *sigh* He won the teasing. ) Then I took a nap after he left. I woke up and showed up to play on myLot. (I'm tired. I think the nap wore me out. )

@spiderdust Naps usually help me feel better... Not sure what the problem was that time. Maybe we didn't nap long enough... I think eight or ten hours is a good length of time to nap...

It's funny how often I feel more wiped out after taking a nap than if I skip one. It's not supposed to work that way.

@DaddyEvil I wish I could sleep that long at night! My body sure could use it. I've been averaging about 5 hours a night

You got a lot of food at the end of your workday. I had a good day. I didn't do anything.

@just4him Yes, it's important to me that what I take gets used up quickly so it isn't wasted. It doesn't do any good for me to take things home if they end up in the trash, because that means I prevented someone else from having it.

I think the eclairs and cookies are gone now, and several of the kids took the muffins in their lunchboxes this morning.

I didn't do any computer work. I mainly looked around for my mother's headphones. Mine are starting to peel. I couldn't find hers yet.

@spiderdust They both are wired on the ear headphones. Mine is USB wired and hers is 3mm jack (I think). I have some earbuds both wired and bluetooth ones. The wired earbuds don't have a long cord and the bluetooth ones sometimes don't have a long charge. Plus I haven't tried the bluetooth ones on this new computer yet.

Are they earbuds or a different style?

I use to work every holiday(Labor Day, also) and a three day weekend, for two straight years. Diane told me not to whine, just take care of our residents and their environment. So that's what I did.

Last year I volunteered to work on the 4th of July because it was a double-pay day and (due to the pandemic and lockdowns) my family wasn't going anywhere special.

@spiderdust When my family got together on holidays, I was always heading to work. Now, I look back and don't have any regrets. Almost all our elderly residents thought of me, as their family. If I didn't work on holidays, they'd just be there without a family visit.

@kobesbuddy Your presence was likely very important to those residents.

I drank the coffees since he prefers hot coffee, but they were great!

The butter made with "whey cream" could be a little saltier than the normal salted butter.

@spiderdust I am glad it tasted as standard salted butter, I like salted butter to spread on bread.

I was surprised at how similar it tasted to standard salted butter. I was afraid it might have a "cooked milk" aftertaste.

Labor Day for me today is a regular day in terms of my area seeing children enjoying their day off from school playing outside of their homes.
