Golden Hats for a Golden Wedding

My husband and I celebrated our golden wedding on 11 September and on Saturday we invited about 20 close family and friends to an afternoon tea in the clubrooms of our new retirement village.
My sister-in-law brought along the ‘hats’ you can see in the photo. I quite like mine and will be able to wear it again to the fun Melbourne Cup luncheon in November.
We had a very enjoyable afternoon then ten of the guests came back to our place. We got in pizzas for dinner and kicked on for a few hours. One brother-in-law played the piano, his daughter played flute and the rest of us sang. As we didn’t have songbooks, everyone called up the lyrics on their phones and sang along which looked a bit strange but worked well.

I'm confused. How can you celebrate a golden wedding when you haven't yet reached the age of 50?

Its easy Maths
Age at Marriage : (-20)
add 50 years : that makes it -20+50= +30
So that solves the puzzle!!

@DocAndersen The dampener on ours is that Vince's younger brother's wife passed away recently. Their golden wedding would have been 11 December - just two months after ours.
