There are a few perks to living here

On the weekend, simply because we can, we might look at a few display homes that are a few minutes’ walk away. If we had bought a new house in this area, it would have cost about the same, but would have been a bit bigger. However, we do have a lot of facilities here and new friends are easy to find. It would be very different trying to find a new circle of friends if we bought outside the village.
Earlier in the week, the neighbour was pulling up his paving bricks and putting in different ones. He offered us the old ones as we want to do a bit more paving down one side of the house.
Two days ago, the next-but-one neighbour offered us temporary blinds that she had finished with. Ours should arrive in a few weeks but in the meantime I can type in more comfort, without being half-blinded by the sun.
We have a website which often has offers of items or recommendations for tradespeople. Every Thursday, a lady who works at a charity brings home bread that has been donated by a grocery chain and offers it to residents for free. And there is a pastry shop nearby! 
So we don’t think we’ll be shifting any time soon.

@DaddyEvil The FB site is great for getting recommendations for all sorts of things. And anyone who has stuff they don't want put up notices offering things to others.

@JudyEv Are you serious? Can you not buy if one is available next to yours with just a wall separating? When we were in the city and living in an apartment our friends did that.
