What the Heck Have I Been Doing?

Well, it has been a busy year. Anne's cancer treatment is ongoing, with two weeks straight of radiation completed and the last week starting tomorrow. For a treatment that takes ten minutes and doesn't hurt, radiation seems to leave patients exhausted. She also gets an infusion of Herceptin every three weeks and that will continue through year's end. Unable to drive now due to some seizures she had in June (about six), she depends on me to drive her for treatments, which I am glad to do. The clinic, fortunately, is only about ten minutes away. She also sees her GP doc and tomorrow we will see a neurologist to find out more about the seizures, maybe caused by the cancer treatment (we hope). So that has keep me pretty busy each day, along with doing all the shopping and much of the cleaning and cooking. We are looking forward to the last treatment for this recurring cancer and hope it is gone forever.

I know by my own experience that chemo has a lot of side effects. Some of them I accept happily as my need to take a long nap after lunch when I have been on remision for years. But I now have peripheral polineuritis and my fingers tremble. I had to sell my car. Still, I have to thank chemo. I would not be writing here if it weren´t for it.

@JamesHxstatic The neurologist gave me some meds years ago saying they "might" help. My medical insurance did not cover them. I took them for about a year and nothing happened. So I decided to accept the shaking and stop paying for them. i never blame chemo for the side effects though. I know I´m here BECAUSE of it. I hope Anna´s problems are solved.

So sorry to hear about that new problem. Anne's hands are shaky too. We see a neurologist today and I am anxious to hear what he will say. Thanks for responding!

I sure hope it is, and as Jim mentioned there was a post just a few days back asking where you were. My dad had several bouts of cancer, and he went to an oncologist for a second opinion on further treatment..the doc said with everything that had been done, the possibility of his having a recurrence was only 20 percent and he has been cancer free..now for 3 or 4 years.

@JamesHxstatic Well I mean he didn't want to die, i wouldn't describe him as a fighter necessarily. His was all surgically removed. He didn't need further treatment in terms chemo or radiation.

Well, it's nice to be thought of. You dad must be a real fighter to have gotten through cancer bouts like that. I'm glad treatment was successful.

@snowy22315 That's great! All this extra treatment can be difficult, but sometimes neccesary.

I hope you for the best. In order to treat cancer, you're killing good cells. So that does tend to make people ill.
